Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Why don't they join the union?

I mean, if you sign a letter, you're on the shitlist already. Might as well join the union if you're going to get canned anyway.

When you lose your job in the US, you lose your health insurance. You're screwed if you need an operation done when you're unemployed. And people in a union tend to be the first to go for talking back.

You Latinos need to cease with your US centricism.
The fired employees have sparringly tied healthcare not beholden to investors.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

I'm a Latino? How exciting!

I don't think the union was official yet, i think they were discussing unionising

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 35 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Prospects must be dire to want to get back into a company that would (and definitely would because they did) do that.

I can't speak for the USA, but typically in Canada (Ontario) people would not want to return to the employer but force a greater settlement.

Also, in Ontario, an employer that is found to be union busting would result in automatic certification of the union - no vote needed.

[–] MurrayL@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No need to speak for the USA, Rockstar North is British

[–] uninvitedguest@piefed.ca 17 points 2 months ago

Which I would have learned earlier had I read the article!

Am I the only one who is pro union but kind of surprised that people are surprised by rockstar’s actions?

It’s a big company in the fucking gaming industry, I’ve always heard it’s very anti labour. Maybe the times are changing though…

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 30 points 2 months ago

I am not sure anybody is surprised, but I am happy to see so much solidarity.

[–] meisterah@ttrpg.network 0 points 2 months ago

I think you should lower your standards for people going forward.

You will be surprised less often that way.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is literally the only way I'll ever buy another Rockstar game.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Why? Even if it goes through, they've already shown their colours.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 months ago

A company with a union that has been tested is better than one with no union. I have no faith that other companies would be better unless forced.

[–] ILoveUnions@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Unions can make even horrible companies treat their workers with decency... Or at least pay them for the bad treatment. Shop union.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

You misunderstand, I'm all for hiring them back. I'm saying that shouldn't change his boycott of rockstar

[–] ILoveUnions@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I understood. I'm saying there's a whole lot less reason to boycott if they become union

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

If they cave to the union and make this right, then I won't care how nice they are. Them being forced to be nice matters a lot more.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They're still a horrible company in many ways. Forcing them to be better in this one aspect doesn't change the fact they're shitty

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not boycotting them because they're shitty. I'm boycotting in solidarity with their union.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Fair enough

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

You don't understand his deep need to play Rockstar games

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 months ago

Get around this by passing fucking laws people. The law has for too long favoured the rich and powerful over the forces that create the wealth (the people). You don't need unions if you are protected by law. Skip the middle man. No salesman will enter your home. I'm only pro-union until the laws catch up (but they never seem to, right?).
