"trying to teach 3..."

Why waste time say lot word when few do trick?

I just assumed that was their kid's name and the parents are fans of Elon Musk.

Three as in the third child? Got bored of naming them already?

That's actually ancient tradition. The Romans loved doing that. Tertius or Tertia would sound nicer to us, but it'd mean the exact same thing. Also, the real reason is probably privacy. The kid's name is none of our business and also not relevant to the story.

Did these people name their child “3”?

[–] sicarius@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would assume it's the child's age, they don't want to broadcast personal details of their child on the Internet so they refer to them by their age so the context of the story still makes sense.
If they just called them as Son or daughter and told the rest of that story I would assume their still living at home in the parents basement 27 year old was just a dickhead.

Usually when people do this "3" would refer to their third child regardless of age. But it's ambiguous.

I call my friend's kids #1 and #2.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I use #2 and B. No preferential treatments.

I called mine's thing 1 and thing 2 for a while. TBF, their parents had let them temp dye their hair blue. I stopped by one evening, and the kids were wearing matching red PJs, with blue hair, climbing the walls in pre bedtime hyperness.

Children’s names are getting out of hand.
