Guilt-tripping students into burnout? Ah yes, just what they need

[–] Skyline969@lemmy.ca 115 points 1 week ago

Makes a rant about someone being a disappointment

Doesn’t spell disappointment correctly

[–] squinky@sh.itjust.works 99 points 1 week ago

Who gave the business major a marker?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 99 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It just says mental health room. It doesn't say it's good mental health.

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Legit lol

Milk came out of my nose... Which was weird because I was drinking diet pepsi

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I think it literally is, meaning, that that is not written by staff and/or authorised by the Organisation.

Don't wake up to be fucking Average

Spoken like a true Average

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 23 points 1 week ago

Me, waking up to be below average: "Good morning! 😃"

A business major wrote that. Their dream career is either a Crypto Life Coach, or a LinkedIn Recruiter.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago

Crypto Life Coaches ought to be more chill. Dollar cost averaging beats most active strategies and you get to sleep in.

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 52 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Maybe it is actually the anti-mental health room.

Your University is a joke if any staff member approved of that.

[–] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 week ago (4 children)

It's just a room you walk into, I doubt anyone really monitors it too much

Fuck all that

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 34 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I would walk up and erase that shit

[–] MrMcGasion@lemmy.world 44 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Just erase a couple of words.

Don't wake up. Be fucking average.

If you're sacrificing everything for your studies, you don't deserve success.

ass up ok

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 24 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Wake up.
Be fucking everything.
You deserve ass, OK?

I'm so sad he's writing real books now. I'm happy for his success, but it's the end of a golden age of literature 😭

Just draw a huge cock and balls. It would be a marked improvement.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 30 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Oh that's an inspo poster who's gonna spend their entire 20's 30's and 40's on coke

[–] Swaus01@piefed.social 15 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Girl if they make enough to fund a 3-decade-long cocke addiction then maybe I should listen to them 😭

I'm okay with being a disappointment to whatever asshole wrote that.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago

Well, looks like it scored -421 points at the bottom there anyway

[–] crapwittyname@feddit.uk 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My ancestors are proud of me, because I know how to spell "disappointment", and have never written a misspelled word in black marker whilst trying to condescend to people I should be supporting.

[–] Schmuppes@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] crapwittyname@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago

Aw thanks 🥹

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

The mental health room was visited by someone with mental problems.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I sacrificed a lot for my studies. Was it worth it, and did I achieve success? Nope. Life is complicated.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Hopefully you got some good stories to tell

Life is a marathon.

You can treat it like every day is a sprint, but eventually you’re going to break down.

Take the pace that keeps you going, take breaks, walk if you need to.

When we’re all dead the only question that will have mattered was whether you were happy and not if you met some arbitrary bar in another persons head.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Nobody’s obituary reads “known and beloved for increasing shareholder profits.”

[–] wulrus@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not tough enough for a true wakeup call. Wipe it all off, and replace with:

  • Your friends think you're stupid!
  • All the other kids are staring at you!
  • Mommy and Daddy fight because of something you did!
  • You walk funny!

I was academically dismissed from college four time and have a university studies degree and a 2.0 GPA. I now have a 6 figure salary. You degree is only a peace of paper, don't sacrifice your heath for a peace of paper.

[–] usrtrv@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

As a counterpoint, your salary is mainly a reflection on how much profit can be made by your skillset/location at a given point in time. I'm not a fan of tying people's worth to their profitability. It's devoid of any type of ethical concern.

If we as a society tie profitability to societal good, then I'll be on board.

Maybe there was a group therapy and the exercise was writing the monologue they wake up to down...? Then they of course reflected together why those were not useful messages and they learnt better ways to address their worries. (Let me dream).

Professor Asian-Tiger-Mom with PhD at University of Wechat

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

University should break you to a certain degree, but it shouldn't shatter you or destroy you. It's like training for a marathon, if you just do sprints to failure every day you won't ever run a marathon you'll just get hurt. No you've got to slowly ramp up and take your rest days.
