Kinda ironic a company called Liberty Media is out here taking down mfs for the media they post

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Watch how they enshitify MotoGP in the next few years.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 7 points 1 week ago

Dorna had already done quite a good job of that

[–] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So typical of the out of touch big businessmen to do this kind of thing. Rat bastards.

[–] sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

it IS typical of those rat bastards!!!!!!!

I realise my comment seemed sarcastic - it's not, I'm being genuine; this desperate corporate grasping is so infuriating.

It's like they feel threatened that any amateur could do analysis and offer a better product in that field than they could.

Old, grey-haired, boomer businessmen who are scared of people actually working to create things rather than just resting on a monopoly.

[–] sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org 3 points 1 week ago

nah, I gotcha I was just being weird, ignore me.

the behavior is obviously bullshit. large companies are nearly always headed by opportunistic people who are either full blown narcissistic personality disordered or at least have a good amount of symptoms ya know? rat fuckin bastards.

On the one hand. This sucks.

On the other hand. Maybe if they weren't such a perfect example of the toxic state of F1 content creators. I'd probably care more.

[–] Etnaphele@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Could you explain more about toxic F1 content?

[–] galaxy_nova@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I wish that cross posting between YouTube and something like peer tube would just become common. I know monetizing is an issue but it would be nice to go watch content workout without fear of it disappearing into the aether.

That's a bummer for sure. I did wonder how they managed to get away with using all that footage... Definitely a gap in the market for this kind of analysis.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 50 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean, legally they didn't "get away" with anything. Their content is pretty much the textbook definition of fair use. The problem is copyright enforcement doesn't really care about that, especially on YouTube. If Yelistener took this to court he would win the case guaranteed, but can they afford the legal fees?

It's a fucked up state of affairs.

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Fair use is a US concept, F1 is a British company so they most likely don't legally recognize this as valid.

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fair use is a US concept, F1 is a British company

YouTube is US American, Liberty Media is US American.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago

FOG is a British company.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago

The British equivalent is fair dealing, and if matey monetised their channel there’s no chance. Likewise if they circumvented DRM to get the footage. FOM charges vast sums to broadcasters for highlights rights, and using it for free undermines that market so again no fair dealing.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It is? Both Liberty Media and Google (YouTube) are US-based companies.

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 5 points 1 week ago

Liberty's child company, Formula One Management (FOM), is a registered British company

[–] bob@feddit.uk 9 points 1 week ago

There's many gaps, but Liberty won't allow anyone to fill them. The complexity of the cars compared to the content us proles get fed is madness.
