That means at least half the people who live in those properties won't be able to own a motor car and I think it's a basic thing that people expect particularly living in town.

Emphasis added.

Absolute carbrain. What the fuck is the matter with people.

@CompactFlax @grue it's a tax haven. Where else are they supposed to keep their Bentleys

[–] Tuuktuuk@piefed.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But why only one spot per household? Where are the two other cars going to be parked?

Has nobody shown the government of Jersey any Strong Towns or City Beautiful videos explaining the damage done by parking minimums?

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Well, I was going to joke about “a chicken in every pot, a parking spot for every home”

But it turns out that that is basically what the original slogan was about completed with “…and a car in every backyard, to boot.“ Conflating progress and prosperity with car-centrism and businesss interests… turns out it’s been there the whole time.

The title came pre-editorialized by OP of the thread I cross-posted from, LOL. I love to see folks outside of urbanist spaces starting to get it.

And in the news at 10: British bean-looking fellow is wrong about things.

Is Jersey British? I suspect it's controversial.

[–] JustJack23@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

Fair point actually, I haven't read about it until now. For others interested https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jersey

It's something the Normans hung onto when they took over Britain.

First time I've seen genuine Jersey gammon.

What the fuck.

This is incredibly stupid. It will drive up the cost for housing

The Channel Islands are a truly strange backwater.
