More than half of Harris voters, 51 percent, say that America is not a functioning democracy, while 52 percent of Trump voters take the opposite view and say the U.S. is a model.

I'm amazed only half think America is not a functioning democracy. American "democracy" is totally broken.

They're talking about voters. Most people didn't.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

1/3 didn't. That's not good, but it's not most people.

[–] iamdefinitelyoverthirteen@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh, I got it backwards. I thought 1/3 did.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today -2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

1/3 was for Kamala, a little bigger 1/3 for Trump and the rest don't deserve citizenship.

I heard they have some free spots in North Korea. Maybe you should move there.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago

I'd prefer Australia where voting is compulsory. Maybe if we got a free sausage with voting lazy ass Americans would show up to do their civic fucking duty. If you don't vote your opinion doesn't matter.

It's also the highest voter participation we have ever had in the history of our country

Only 25% of the country voted during the Great Depression

This is more than a little bit wrong.

Same people who think peaceful protest at this point in time will yield results.

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

And how many of that 35% are willing to take the risk of it becoming a civil war?

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Why is this your first question

Your initial premise is incorrect. Money is less valuable than community.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Arguably all revolutions are civil wars.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

How many of the 65% are happy to do nothing as the fascists keep winning?

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd say its about 99.9% of both groups. I mean, Trump got elected, and no one stopped it. Americans can't be that attatched to a functioning democracy. Or human rights. Or not having a rapist treasonous dementia ridden piece of shit steering our country into the plantery core. Off hand, I can only think of about 4 people who id consider the true americans of this generation, and i think all four of those people are right wingers sadly. As much as i hate right wingers, it does seem like if the country is ever to be improved, itll be a lone right winger to do it.

There was a group of anarchists who ambushed an ICE facility and shot them.

The media quickly buried that story, which always makes me laugh when I hear how Libs say not to use violence as Trump is only waiting for an excuse. Yet when he got the perfect excuse, it’s all crickets.

[–] SwingingTheLamp@midwest.social 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Just about everything about this comment is factually incorrect. There were two incidents. In the first, a group of people (allegedly) were setting off fireworks and spray-painting vehicles, fled from responding local police, and one of the group shot at them and injured an officer. In the second incident, a disturbed individual fired and killed a detainee, injuring two others. Then he killed himself.

So, no anarchists, no ICE personnel shot, and it was easy to find the news stories about both incidents. ICE has shot several people, and begun using more violent tactics, so it would at appear that they are escalating.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

How fucking wrong can you be?

They used fireworks to lure out officers from the Prairieland ICE facility and shot 3 of them with rifles. Them being Anarchists is also well established, one of them even being a prior member of the John Brown Gun Club involved in an earlier incident.

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

I had already posted the exact story at the time he posted his comment. Its literally the comment above his lol. Wild.

[–] SwingingTheLamp@midwest.social 2 points 3 weeks ago

I read several news pieces about the incident. You should read the Wikipedia article when linking it. One local police officer was wounded, no ICE personnel were shot. Three detainees were shot in a separate incident in Dallas. The John Brown Gun Club isn't anarchist. So, as I said, no anarchists, no ICE personnel shot, it was easy to find news stories (and a Wikipedia article) about the incident, and ICE is escalating their violent tactics.

Best hope for an amicable divorce.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

The Harris and Trump voters will be on opposite sides of that revolution.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

we should just take a state, like Arizona, and set a date to ship all the folks willing to fight and let them duke it out.

no guns, no blades, just fists and legs. you don't get food or water either. when you give up you can be reintroduced to society or continue living in the Arizona hellscape of your own creation.
