Ten bucks says the moment the election is over, Cuomo flips Republican.

[–] Naia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 88 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He's already asked Trump to help him win.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 66 points 2 weeks ago

And Elon Musk endorses him too!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

They're all DINOs, or at least enough of them that Democrats seem to never be able to get anything done.

there was a debate I was watching the other night where it was one panelist betting beat up by the others who were basically defending Sinema and Manchen as "well at least a democrat" held the seats.

Like.. who cares if it's D in the seat if they always vote Republican?

it's kike they just don't give a shit about policies or have no conception beyond D versus R.

Donors, mostly. You can raise a lot more money on the back of a Senate Majority. Sinema and Manchin, in particular, become focal points for bribery and political money laundering, because they're the gatekeepers of Senate legislation.

If Republicans hold these seats, Schumer can't extort Wall Street or Silicon Valley for another bag of crypto tokens to spread around to his minions into the next election cycle. All the money just lands in the wallets of Thune and Johnson, because... why bother bribing a party that has no power?

it’s kike they just don’t give a shit about policies or have no conception beyond D versus R.

The value of policy is as a leverage point for raising money and paying off your friends. You put the GND on the table in order to get Exxon to pay you to take it off. You put Public Option on the table so Aetna and United Healthcare pay you to kill it. You put DC Statehood on the table as a bargaining chip to remove again, for a price.

This is the modern state of American Democracy. Everything is for sale. The big difference between the Bush/Obama/Biden Era and Trump Era is that Trump wants to get a taste of everything. So he's more nakedly corrupt and transparently greedy than his predecessors.

And that's what Dems are sold on voting against. Not an end to corruption, but an end to making it so fucking obvious.

If they're all DINOs, then does the term "DINO" even have meaning?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

It becomes a TINO 😉

Republicans need Cuomo where he is, because they want a guy who can say "I'm a lifelong Democrat and I hate all the voters in the Democratic Party". Guys like the Cuomo Brothers and Eric Adams make for excellent Kapos by screaming "Save us from ourselves!" with a megaphone provided by Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer.

Meanwhile, as Sliwa himself as demonstrated, there's really no stomach for a turncoat Democrats in the Republican Party. This is one big difference between the two parties. Democrats down in Florida will happily nominate a former Republican to run statewide, because all they care about is "winning" in the abstract. Republicans enjoy having Cuomo kowtow to their leader while wearing Dem swag, but would never trust this guy anywhere near a position of authority.

Tracks for an SAer

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 54 points 2 weeks ago

Nice city you got here . . . snif . . be a real shame if trump should invade it.

[–] AshMan85@lemmy.world 53 points 2 weeks ago

Tells his rape victims "its me or trump"

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 44 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And Trump endorsed him.

Good cop/ bad cop, but they're both actually gross, grabby, nepo-baby dickheads.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 weeks ago

Pioneering the latest and greatest adaptation "worse cop/worst cop"

[–] recentSlinky@lemmy.ca 39 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Can someone educate me a bit about the US's political laws. Is it legal to campaign for votes by threatening the voters? 🤔

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 49 points 2 weeks ago

Apparently everything is legal now as long as you're willing to bend the knee.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 46 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

wouldn't be an exaggeration to say there's no longer law in the States.

[–] thelivefive@startrek.website 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh there is. There is no rule of law, no equity of law, but there is law. And it will be used as harshly and aggressively as possible on the poor, minorities, Democrats, the press, universities, etc.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

laws to protect the rich and bind the poor.

always has been. just never so literal and in your face

[–] thelivefive@startrek.website 3 points 2 weeks ago

True. It's partially just a dropping of pretenses, but to keep up those pretenses we sometimes had to have justice. Now that the act is gone I'm afraid the small bit of justice the disenfranchised did have is gone with it.

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Sadly, as long as it's not an openly direct threat which can't be interpreted any other way, our "free speech" laws will usually provide the cover to allow it. Even if Cuomo said "I'll kill any Democrat who doesn't vote for me," there's a very strong chance he'd get away with it because the target of his threat is still too vague to be taken seriously.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 33 points 2 weeks ago

When the opponents resort to threats of violence it only shows how afraid they are.

"Mamdani will cause Trump to invade! Put me in charge so I can help him take over the city!"

Also, while I've never been to New York I know people from there. I feel like if Trump could do it he would have already. If Ice tried to kidnap someone there would be a lot of people who would stand in their way. They won't put up with the shit.

And the fact that Trump hates Mamdani and Cuomo is saying Trump doesn't hate him is not the win he seems to think it is.

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 29 points 2 weeks ago

After decades of glorifying gangsters of all kinds we finally have gangsters in charge, well done folks.

[–] sunbytes@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago

"Do what I want or my scary friend will beat you up"

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 weeks ago

Trump is trying to give me the election, doesn't sound like a mayor able to do anything in the future unless it is Trump endorsed. Having Trump running the mayor isn't the freedom NYers are looking for.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

More like "I pledge to kiss Trumps pudgy ass so he doesn't sick his goons on the city. Smooch along with me!"

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I think it's sic.

If it's not then sic.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 weeks ago

Aaah is this this democracy americans always scream about that its the best in the world? sips tea Jolly jokers

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago

I think Giuliani is probably in the Epstein files.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 weeks ago

Vote for me or the guy who endorsed me will come and ruin the city...

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 11 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Would Trump invading New York City be enough of a rubicon moment to kick off a civil war, or would you all pretend to be washing your hair that day?

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

But very annoyed

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Isn't there a film where people try to escape a war torn new York? What's it called?

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I love Snake Plissken.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

Westside Story, I think.

The Neck Bomb Fiasco

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

he already backed off from invading "liberal hellhole sf" because too many rich people there, NYC is the same, plus they already have the corrupt NYPD there.

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

He is right, even trump said he would be better /s

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world -5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Cuomo is representative of the Democratic Party.

They'll gladly throw the gates open for Donald Trump before they'll allow a socialist any measure of power.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The DNC candidate is literally Mamdani. Invited by the DNC and chosen by the primary voters, and now chosen by the general voters as well. Mamdani is DNC, you're no better than Cuomo for refusing to accept the facts.
