/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I need one of Odo saying, “Cool motive, still murder.”

My god, Avery Brooks and Terry Crews could be brothers!

[–] negativenull@piefed.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

It's scary actually:

I mean, they ARE brothers… 😉

These 3 (so far), all fit perfectly and I’m rewatching ST:TNG as we speak. Tagging for the updates lol.

Good thing he survived the crash on Veridian III.

I've been saying for YEARS that we need a Brooklyn 99 in space. I was thinking Star Wars, but I'd watch the hell out of it in Star Trek too.

This was amazing, this was in 2009? How was this ever picked up? This needs to be pitched again. This is like The Office, meets, Its Always Sunny, meets Arrested Development.

No copaganda for me thanks.

Brooklyn 99 Isn't copaganda. In fact they directly address some of the ways that cops abuse their positions.

[–] SatyrSack@quokk.au 3 points 2 weeks ago

You may not have seen season 8. That's when they really lean into the "bad apples" fallacy

[–] Solumbran@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I would say it is more complicated than that. They show the whole set of characters as trying to do their best to be nice and good, which does give a wrong idea of what cops are. But they do try to address some problems as well, so it's not so clearly one or the other.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Yeah, the cops on that show are better than regular cops... they address those things... and that might make you think that some of those that work forces - are just like your good little parasocial friends on the show!

Which is how propaganda is supposed to work. So you saying:

In fact they directly address some of the ways that cops abuse their positions.

Is not really a rebuttal to it being Copaganda. That's how propaganda works, it gives you a better version of reality.
