Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Everything turned out pretty great after the 20s ended. Right?

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And four terms of a borderline socialist president.

[–] elevenbones@sh.itjust.works 54 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You're doing God's work danekrae! (unfortunately that means your opposition is literally Satan)

We really are in the Gilded Age.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 33 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Inequality right now is worse than it was in the Gilded Age.

[–] TheMadCodger@piefed.social 20 points 2 weeks ago

I think it's also supposed to be worse than when it was during the French Revolution.

Trump has all the grift of Jay Gatsby, but none of the charisma.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

Trump said he wanted the courts to “clarify” how he can legally fund the program “as soon as possible” and blamed Democrats for the funding lapse.

Straight outta the neoliberal playbook...

"All powerful" until the people want them to do something they want, then all of a sudden the pretend to be completely powerless and claim they want to do something but just can't.

The only reason maga ignores trump doing it, is neoliberal normalizing it.

Don't make politics tribal, in a political environment where both sides are corrupt, the more corrupt side will always win. So we have to keep our own house clean, and that means progressives and not neoliberals.

Spoiler: Trump gives absolutely zero fucks.

Yzma: it's no concern of mine if your family has....what was it?

Peasant: uh...food

Yzma: pah, you should have thought of that before you became peasants

The theme of the party is appropriate given the circumstances, I don't think the attendees will understand it, but it is clearly significant

[–] EndOfLine@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

“If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding, just like I did with Military and Law Enforcement Pay,” Trump added.

So he admits that he knows how because he's done it for other services.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

It's just an outright lie

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago

That'll show him!

Susan Collins thinks he's learned his lesson for sure this time.

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 7 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah man I never would expect an out of touch rich asshole to behave in such a way, people are so unpredictable right.

[–] Jayjader@jlai.lu 7 points 2 weeks ago

Mr Trump? Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette are in the line, they would like to share some advice...

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Fucking assholes!

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

He's such a philistine. Literally no taste. Gawd. Did you see the Lincoln bathroom renovation. ?

Another thing he ruined.

Lord Jezus. Strike down this white devil. He has abysmal taste.

I bet he sees a canvas print with glue-on rhinestones and thinks "the most beautiful painting that's ever been done.".

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

The gifts. And the ballroom.

Sorry to be so hetero-normative, but what kind of man is this?
