ok so....do something about it. oh wait...you can't.

just another dog and pony show.

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Now I want to go to a dog show.

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What about the ponies? Are you a ponyphobe or something?

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The sad thing is most ponyphobes actually turn out to be ponies themselves

[–] HowAbt2day@futurology.today 4 points 2 weeks ago

Self loathing ponies?

Which global government enforces international law? Ah that’s right, there is none. Might as well say it violates galactic or universal law.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 45 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

People follow it by agreement and the idea is they face sanctions if they don't. It's unlikely America will face direct sanctions. However they are unlikely to find many friendly partners moving forward. The more heinous acts, the less other countries can overlook it.

It's not just USA. The more countries that skirt international law, the more others also do the same and the less others listen to America. Putin doesn't care about international law when invading Ukraine. Then china stops caring about consequences for invading Taiwan etc.

It's stuff like this that makes the international community more afraid of Trump. The grifting and grafting is an internal problem. The fascism is a humanity problem. The breakdown in rule of law is a global problem.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not to mention that israel been breaching all international laws since it's creation in 48

[–] nwtreeoctopus@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And how much of that has been enabled by US backing?

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Before the USA, it was enabled by the British. Also all those western countries quickly recognized israel after terrorists attacks by zionists like King David hotel bombing and the nekba ethenic cleansing while today they have ton of conditions to effectively on the ground to back up a two state solution without even palestinians right to an army

This timeline they've already been through the system and saw our broadcasts. Guess who is on the "Do Not Contact" list for the warp capable group?

[–] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

That's exactly how it plays out. No first contact until 2063. Except there's been a really ugly nuclear war already by that time.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

We have to go through the Bell Riots, the Eugenics Wars, and WWIII, before the Vulcans will show their pointy little ears.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Well we're on track for sanctuary districts

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Maybe if someone lets Miss Universe know she can send the message on.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 30 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Should have him arrested next time he steps outside the Untied States

[–] pinheadednightmare@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I would pay good money for this

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Think of the ratings this would get, uyge, tremendous ratings like you’ve never seen before.

[–] HuskerNation@lemmynsfw.com 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh please let's make Trump an international criminal

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The people who make up the Trump administration are directly responsible for millions of people dying through their malice and ineptitude. They are guilty of genocide, war crimes, and general crimes against humanity.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 24 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

So declare him a war criminal, and arrest him anytime he leaves America.

That's why George W Bush can't leave the country. He's wanted everywhere in the world as a war criminal.

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 10 points 2 weeks ago

I say go tit for tat and just put a bounty on his head, since hes so comfortable doing that to other heads of state

[–] Tja@programming.dev 6 points 2 weeks ago
[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago
[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

Feel free to arrest and indict the fucking orange bastard

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Of course and the International Criminal Court start a case.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

ICC doesn’t have authority over the US because they don’t recognize it.

[–] DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Doesn't it? I am pretty sure they have authority over everyone. US and other non signatories just do not have to hand them over. But if they ever visit a signatory state, they should be arrested.

[–] T156@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

In theory, they do, but the US not only doesn't recognise the authority of the ICC, they have provisions for a military invasion of the Hague/Netherlands if a member of the US armed forces is tried in the ICC.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

The sane 1st World countries recognize it and he can still be prosecuted.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

All those western countries who was saying israel has to defend itself. Why are you not saying Venezuela has the right to defend itself?

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Venezuela can't defend itself against the US. The US has been very good at keeping South America in check. They are basically all vassals to the US. The moment someone gets out of line the CIA shows up for regime change.

The white elephant in the room is the US military holding the entire world hostage.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago

The US is the premier terrorist state in the world.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I don't think venezuela has a choice. The usa is already trying to do the coup

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Doesn’t apply to countries that won’t allow American corporations to exploit their people and natural resources

What is the UN going to do about it? Israel can wipe out an entire population, murder is lagalized

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 0 points 2 weeks ago

Aipac/russia has control over the US , uk and some of the EU govt.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmynsfw.com 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago

That's because Trump made a deal with the devil for immunity from all consequences. The devil didn't realize it would mean there were also no consequences for Trump for making the deal

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The UN needs an army or at least a sanctioning body that can do real things.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

The army would just be an arm of its strongest members to ensure they stay the strongest.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Issue an international arrest warrant for the entire administration please. They are literally manufacturing another Native American genocide and we need the world to help us stop this madness.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can the UN even do anything to the United States if they have a unilateral security council veto? I would think that the USA would successfully find a way to argue that sanctioning them for crimes against humanity is not considered a "procedural" decision.

[–] PanGodofPanic@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Can the UN even do anything

no

to the United States

gods no

if they have a unilateral security council veto?

the "don't do that" button does, quite effectively, prevent the UN from doing anything, and for some godforsaken reason 5 countries all have one

successfully find a way to argue

they don't need to do that, that's what the "don't do that" button is for

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Someone stop this Shittler

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 2 weeks ago

its like calling the israeli expansion into gaza unacceptable, but nothing is being done.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

countries need to start making treaties about military spending and isolate ones that spend over an agreed upon maximum plus have checks for hidden spending.
