Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

I just binged millarworld, ngl I hated most of it, superior, starlight and huck were the main standout exceptions. I did like big game, felt like it retroactively made his previous books better and had a good ending. Not the biggest fan of the new huck (huck gets cucked) and nemesis books that have come after.

Not sure what to start next, was nice to have a reading order. Read the valiant universe 2012 reboot before this. Probably going to do marvel/dc next, tried to start with greenlantern after kickass to read something light at emerald city. A few issues later I hit the fridge and had to stop reading, not sure what's worse, that or what happens to katie in kickass.

I went through the new X-Men reboot to see if it was worth diving into... it's not.

Wait a few months for it all to end and the inevitable re-reboot.

I’ve been keeping up with Monstress ever since it started in 2015 and it remains one of my favorites. They just wrapped up an arc with issue #60 that was honestly incredible.

There is a big compendium coming out for the 10th anniversary here shortly - if you like fantasy, ancient gods, and badass ladies I highly recommend this series!

I’m also reading Ryan North’s Krypto series. I’m a huge fan of North’s work (dinosaur comics, squirrel girl, etc) and I love dogs. This book is… well it’s heavier and sadder than I would have guessed? It’s still good, but maybe not what I expected. There’s still one more issue coming out that hopefully ends on a higher note.

Last is Undiscovered Country. I picked this up originally due to my familiarity with Scott Snyder’s work on Batman. I can’t say everyone will enjoy this book, but the premise is at least interesting. It’s set to wrap up its final issue in January so I’m curious to see how it sticks the landing.

Almost done with the Dan Slott venom run, then I was going to read the Morrison green lantern I got the season 1/2 trades on in stock trades for pretty cheap.

Black science was great but I'm a sucker for anything Rick Remender writes, such a bummer though when books show up damaged

I am working on Alan Moore's run of Swamp thing. I love the art style of the time, nice and simple with bold colors.

I keep getting distracted, I've started reading his run a few times, I tried to start from earlier and read up to it, didn't really enjoy that
