Yeah seriously, kiwi is fantastic, pizza is fantastic, kiwi on pizza? Probably fantastic. If it’s like pineapple it’ll caramelize when it cooks.

[–] Thorry@feddit.org 25 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I'm a huge fan of sweet and savoury in the same dish. Pineapple on pizza is great, but there are a lot of dishes from South-Asia that combine unique flavours. One of my favourites is rice with a yellow curry sauce with raisins and peach slices on the side. There can even be nuts in the rice to mix it up some.

People need to step outside of their food comfort zone and try out different things.

People need to step outside of their food comfort zone and try out different things.

I agree! My rule is, generally, if someone likes it there’s something about it worth liking. I can’t always find that thing (sometimes for genetic reasons, like cilantro and, I suspect, very hoppy beers), but I’m always willing to try.

This isn’t only true of food, by the way. Music is another place this is true. If you can find why people appreciate a type of music, you can usually learn to appreciate it even if you didn’t at first.

Heh, broadly I agree. I think I know what people like about it: very familiar sound, chord progressions, themes. But to me it mostly sounds pretty much the same.

That said, some of what it finds its roots in is worth hearing. Bluegrass, southern rock, etc.

Nah we don't have a common enemy, you couldn't accept my taste for pineapples, I will not start being best buddies with you just because you think there's someone with a worse taste, you'll just use me to attack them and when there are no more kiwi pizza lovers you'll go back to attacking me, the pineapple pizza lover. Either grow up and accept people like different flavors than you, or the pineapple kiwi pizza alliance will make you'll taste flavor combos you wish could go back to hell where they came (this is an allegory to queers who want to exclude queers more "flamboyant" than them so that the heteros can leave them alone)

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Also “LGB drop the T”. Once all the trans people are in camps, who do you think they’re coming for next, LGBs?

[–] scrohawk@reddthat.com 5 points 1 month ago

I’m convinced.

[–] Lupus@feddit.org 19 points 1 month ago (4 children)

I love salami, capers and banana on a pizza, don't judge if you haven't tried it!

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I have no problems if you honestly give something a try and don't like it. But the people who judge without trying are acting like small children. I'm not sure why anybody gives their uninformed opinions the time of day.

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Controversial but I can't help but be curious...

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 3 points 1 month ago

I will absolutely judge anything before I try it. A best guess before trying is perfectly fine as long as it is updated after trying.

My experience with trying brussel sprouts as a kid was that they were terrible, just mushy and bland. As an adult I had roasted and properly seasoned brussel sprouts that were fantastic. It is important to be able to judge before, after, and revise based on new knowledge!

In this case I have had sweet fruit on pizza and my judgement is that I would probably like kiwi fresh, but not as leftovers.

... I'd try it..

[–] dan69@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Woah I’m not that gung ho, I’d like to try this first.

You are all banned from entering Italy. I will personally deport you all and put your asses in a reeducation camp.

This is tribalism, pure unadulterated satanic ritualistic shit. If jesus was here he would be crying now.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I feel like I'm the only one with no strong opinion either way about pineapple on pizza.

[–] sangriaferret@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I'm with you. I'd never order a Hawaiian but if you put one in front of me I totally be happy with it.

Genuinely I think this would be more enjoyable than pineapple on pizza. It's not that I hate pineapple on pizza, I just hate pineapple in general.

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 4 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I hate kiwis (the fruit), so I wouldn't eat this, but I love pineapples on pizza, so I'd imagine it'd taste good for people who like kiwis.

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've never tried roasted kiwis, but roasted peaches are absolutely delicious. What about peach pizza?

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've had that - peach, prosciutto, and burrata with a balsamic glaze on a white pie. Delicious.

I'd fr love to try this. Im down with lots of pizza. Of course everyone on lemmy is discriminating, yall love to talk about how open minded you are, but just add some fruit to a pizza and witness the discrimination.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

You can pry my kiwizza from my cold, dead hands.

[–] ApplyingAutomation@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

FFS let people eat what they want in peace.

[–] chatokun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I am up voting both your comment and the pizza crimes one, because in practice I agree with you (and personally like pineapple but hate pepperoni, sausage, and olives) I do enjoy faux rage about it too.

I thought pickles would be the new controversy, but this raises thing to a new level.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

I mean pickled jalapeños are great (especially with pineapple) on pizza so it makes sense that something similar for folks that don’t like the heat would be tasty too

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Nah, man. Pickles are an established thing on pizza. At least in my parts of the world. Try a pizza with kielbasa, onions and pickles if You get the chance.

New Zealand style pizza: kiwi, chicken, and mutton as toppings. Guaranteed to make the new Zealander in your life very angry you attributed this to them

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Oh no, that poor bird. All for an awful pizza.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nah, I don't judge people based on their food preferences.

Why? This fits under the pineapple on pizza category. It's exactly the same concept. At least now you get to feel how everyone feels about pineapple on pizza. :V

"I said key lime pie not a kiwi pie!"

"...no, no, that's fine I'm still going to eat it."

[–] d0nkey@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

I will find you. When I find you I am going to torture you until you cannot handle it anymore. And when you cannot handle it anymore you will die. But when you die you will not relax, because I will be there with you.

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 5 points 1 month ago

I absolutely would eat that.

[–] TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Needs more anchovies and pineapple.

I've always disliked kiwi, only recently discovered it's because I'm allergic to it. Mild reactions so far but now I'll just avoid it altogether because subsequent exposures can cause worse reactions.

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I've never eaten kiwi, so I don't know what to say. I generally hate fruit. But the only one I do eat is pineapple but only on pizza.
