Canada's Blue Jays need just 8 more wins to win it all and become MLB 'World Series' Champions!!!

They kick off a series against the Seattle Mariners today. And following a win in that series would face either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Milwaukee Brewers next.

Bo's not on the ALCS roster, but Scherzer and Bassitt are, replacing Bruihl and Nance:

We also burned too many pitchers. Wasn't much to like out of the Jays tonight, don't know what's gotten into them. Bullpen pitchers didn't look great either. It's not like it was an offensive blowout either, if anything it put everyone to sleep. Looked like the Jays of old even, light jogs to first, swinging at everything...

Hope it was just a one off. Also the home plate umpire was terrible too. Not suggesting this made a difference, but buddy had a strike zone that swung all over the place, which affected both teams. Hate to see that shit this deep in the playoffs.

Yup, no comfort here.

Nice to see Tony get a hit!

Predictable. Gausman still has a solid outing though, we just need to support him with more runs.

One stranded. Heart of the lineup coming up for the bottom of the 3rd. Let's gooooo.

Watching mariners and tigers burn through their pitchers was absolutely glorious

So stoked for this game

Kinda sucks to have to stay up late and watch west coast games

Mariners burned 3 starting pitchers in DS5 😈

I agree re: having to stay up late. I hope we come out with a bang tonight!

It's one bonus for living out west for sure, we were just sitting down to supper when the first ball was thrown. I miss a few things about Ontario, but the late night sports tilts aren't one of them. I have vivid memories of being a small child fighting like hell to keep one eye open at like 1am on a school night watching NHL playoff games going into three OTs.

Imagine being in Newfoundland! They're 1.5 hours behind ET

[–] GrindingGears@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

It would definitely make things harder for sure. Character building, as my father would say lol

[–] Nevrome@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

Well yeah, they're certainly more tired but not burned through. That being said, I sure do hope the Jays tear them apart while they're on the mound.

Go Jays go!

Mariners' pitching is really thin at the moment. It'd be great if we could exploit that

lol Raleigh

Close call, Naylor. Onto the bottom of the 4th.

[–] streetfestival@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

Thank goodness that stayed in the yard!

Alright, runner on third base stranded. Come on boys. Time to take the lead.

Scherzer is a vet, a great one really, but he seemed shaky with command in the last bit of the season. Hopefully the time off fixed everything up and he's as good as ever.

Too bad we didn't cash in the two walks. But a lead is a lead, and Miller is up to 26 pitches already. Good stuff.

I'm still surprised I'm stoked on and have made plans to watch another baseball game, but heck yeah!

As someone who doesn't watch much beyond highlights, I'm curious, does Gilbert having pitched 30ish pitches on Saturday really change anything? I
The commentators on Friday were talking like it would but it seems like he pitched about a third of a game, so couldn't he just move back in the rotation? Or am I missing something obvious?

Idk but I can guess. I think if your best 3 starters pitch games 1, 2, and 3 of a 7-game series, then they also usually start games 5, 6, and 7 (i.e., your best starters start twice). Maybe with the pushback he'll probably only start once

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 2 points 1 month ago

OOOOH, that makes sense! If he were the #1 and played #2, he'd only pitch once in a Jays sweep etc.

Thanks!
