General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Toby Blair invited a lot of shady people into his home during that time. Are we surprised he invited a paedophile?

Aye, Tony Blair, the war criminal, had dodgy mates. Shocking.

Meeting someone as well-connected as Epstein isn't at all surprising, especially given Epstein's relationship with Mendelson, the one who wanted the two to meet.

What I want to know is did they ever meet on Epstein's island. Because IMO that changes the picture substantially.

I'm not making an accusation, actually just asking, did he ever meet Savile? (Someone far more evil than Epstein IMO)

Almost every UK public figure had met Savile.

I know it's bizarre to think about now, but Savile was adored by almost everyone in the UK. He was seen as a legend, and he was a very sociable guy that attended a lot of events.

My sister had a Savile plushie lol. It's hard to even articulate how well-liked he was before we found out the news.

John Lydon knew, said something, and was banned for it.

Oh there were certainly some who knew, and some others who suspected.

But they were few and far between, and not taken seriously, because it seemed like such a bizarre accusation.

I remember the Huw Edwards thing seemed so bizarre as well, and he wasn't even anywhere near as evil as Savile

There must have been something sleazy about him though even then, that people knew about. I remember watching Jim'l Fix it as a kid and my mum turning it off, saying she didn't like him but wouldn't explain why, other than "I just don't like him".

That's interesting, I hear these stories about how everyone knew, but @TheHermitBee@feddit.uk said he was well loved
