Don't get anything made under the TTI banner if you can help it. Rossmann has a whole video going over why with one of their vac-mops sold under the Hoover brand.

(which, the Hoover name, which used to be a mark of quality, getting dragged through the sewers by TTI is tragic enough in itself)

The video in question that goes over why you shouldn't get anything made by TTI if you can help it: https://odysee.com/@rossmanngroup:a/this-floor-cleaner-is-designed-to-kill:7

I'm still mad at them for killing off Royal. The Royal Everlast vacuums were tanks.

FYI, TTI owns Hoover, Oreck, Vax, & Dirt Devil.

Hoover is basically in the same position as the ThinkPad name now, although Lenovo isn't treating the ThinkPad name quite as badly as TTI is treating Hoover yet, but the quality and even repairability/upgradability of ThinkPads has been going on a decline lately.

Is it true that ThinkBOOKS are still ok?

I've just been using a Swiffer WetJet mop. I don't really need a vacuum; the thick mop pads are pretty good at picking up most stuff. Anything it doesn't handle, I just use my regular vacuum on bare floor mode.

I’m tired of paying for the expensive pads and fluid. And they don’t really do what I need for sweeping stuff up.

So use your own homemade pads and fluid. If I run out of pads, a couple paper towels folded over will do the trick. And any cleaning solution that works on floors is fine; you don't need to buy their name-brand junk.

The flat mop itself is all you really need, and you can buy one of their cheap dry ones. It functions the same as the WetJet. I have the money to throw at their more expensive stuff, but you can do the same for a fraction of the cost.

I spent years using an actual thick mop and bucket to clean floors, which is not very efficient (or sanitary, apparently). So I like the convenience of the flat head mop with replaceable pads. And like I said, anything cheap to use as a pad will work. I can buy a roll of paper towels for a buck at the Dollar Store and use them as pads. Same with floor cleaner.

The comment from the other thread is right - combination devices are more complex, and thus more likely to break and not have replacement parts available.

Personally I would go with swiffer type mop (flat rectangle) with a microfiber cloth instead of their proprietary pads. The cloth is washable and reusable. And if you don't want to use microfiber because of microplastics, then a cotton kitchen towel would work too.

I have accepted my microplastic content, and am eagerly awaiting my plastic-based super powers.

I have a shark combo that's a few years old- the vacuum piece definitely clogs more thany old solo robot vacuum. I'm not sure if in recent years it's gotten better, but having to empty it daily is still better than vacuuming manually. The mop function you have to install the water tank and put the mop pad on to use it and I find it does a fairly good job. Still need to vacuum and mop manually time to time but the in between is helpful.
