California Governor Gavin Newsom should be charged criminally for describing Stephen Miller as a "fascist," according to a Republican lawmaker.

On Friday, Newsom's press office posted this on X: "STEPHEN MILLER IS A FASCIST!" MAGA accused Newsom of "trying to get Miller killed" with the simple comment on social media. Miller is currently the White House deputy chief of staff under Trump.

Arresting someone for calling a fascist a fascist is pretty fascist.

True, but it's good to be specific.

ADL actually have a list of symbols of hate, Anti-Antifa is one of them. So irony.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 months ago

It's a shame the ADL threw away all of their credibility

Look, Steven clearly isn't a fascist, he just talks like a fascist, and acts like a fascist, and does fascist things!

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Whoa...good thing we didn't step in it.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Yup, just dived headfirst into the cesspool

Nazis: "Don't call me a nazi, or I'll harass, imprison, deport, or murder you in one of my many death camps!"

[–] Steve@startrek.website 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That kind of honesty would be refreshing

At the rate they're going it'll probably be their party platform for the midterms next year

I hate being in this timeline where Newsom is the Democratic front-runner. The guy is such a opportunistic slimeball.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sure, but you have to weigh that against the other guy, who is straight up a fascist dictator narcissist convicted felon child abusing/rapist piece of sub-human shit.

Next to someone like that, even Newsom looks like a shining star.

I'm so fucking tired of hoping for the lesser of two evils

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

The problem is that the only way I can see to set up a system that will give the pick of the lesser vs greater good is to set up a system in which anyone who desires power has absolutely no channels to access said power. Basically you can only be president if you don't want to be president. This would cause all sorts of other issues such as rapid chains of abdication.

That is exactly what politics is: the least bad worst thing. It always has been and always will be.

[–] Aljernon@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

Most people are. It's the big reason (aside from being black and a woman) why Kamala struggled so much; she ran on a platform of "Trump is obviously a bad choice" instead of "here's why I'm a good choice"

[–] Zamboni_Driver@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 months ago

Awesome, then you by default will be supporting the greater of two evils. Great choice.

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

It was always going to be an opportunistic slime ball. We were never going to go immediately from Trump directly to a Democratic Socialist. Anybody who thinks that possible is delusional.

We just need to steer the ship some and solidify the rules in government.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Didn't we have this same conversation about Biden and so people didn't vote for Biden?

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 months ago

Yeah....not like those other politicians.

I like how he shows a definition of “international terrorism” and highlighted the part of the definition that says “appears to be intentional” as though that alone constitutes international terrorism.

3 months ago Gavin called temu goebbels a fascist cuck (which he is). Evidently calling him just a fascist is over the line though.

[–] als@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 months ago

So about that first amendment

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 9 points 2 months ago

I think they were hoping for a libel suit instead, so we could all watch Miller try to prove that he’s not a fascist.

[–] rayyy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

When the GOP has a felon leader they project furiously.

[–] CobblerScholar@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Oh I'd love to see that dead eyed weirdo try and prove he isnt fascist in a court

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Derrick, the guy calling for his arrest is literally calling an ex FBI member communist. You couldn't make it up. Genuinely shameless hypocrisy.

The American Right, alone among Right Wings across the world, has long had an internal tension between Being Right Wing and the Conservative obsession with Tradition and National Origin Myths (which for us is the American Revolution, the Constitution, and buzzwords like Freedom and Liberty). The rise of Fascism has allowed alot of the American Right to be unapologetically Far Right and drop any pretense of caring about the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.
