This is exactly the kind of rhetoric that turns progressive people away from churches. Are progressives 'killing god', or is it actually the churches themselves who are deliberately turning people away?
AFAIK hating on trans people isn't even in the bible, so this is 100% on the current personnel of the churches being even worse than they absolutely have to. Even if you believe that the bible is truly the "word of God", this is just something you made up yourself.
Unfortunately there is some line in Leviticus about it being illegal for a 'man to wear the clothing of a woman, or a woman to wear the tools of a man', and another one about not cutting yourself. But for a god who commands infant genital mutilation, it's certainly hypocritical.
Easy fix: "trans women are women, trans men are men". You could just as easily argue that the man who wears the clothing of a woman is the closeted trans man.

The catholic church certainly doesn't care about that when it comes to modern medicine.
Oh, I am certainly supportive of trans people being the gender they say they are. I don't think the people who wrote the Bible thought of it that way though, it was probably their intent that the (flawed) concept of binary biological sex was what they were referring to.
And it's important to acknowledge that and reject the Bible as a source of moral truth, rather than seeking to 'reinterpret' it, to make it 'acceptable' while not having to outright reject it.
While I agree that Christianity is flawed from the get-go and that you're probably right about what the bible authors would think about trans people, I still can't keep myself from pointing out the glaring holes in church doctrine. The people who wrote the bible, especially the old testament, would probably stone someone to death if they explained current Christianity to them.
Arguably, pointing out the raging bigotry of "this isn't explicitly in the bible, I just made it up myself" and "this IS in the bible, but I chose to ignore it" would make people aware of how absurd Christianity is and reconsider their beliefs, but in reality that's probably not at all how belief works.

Id hope the fact that none of it is true also turns people away from churches.
For the unaware, modern Catholicism had been outreaching trans folks into their cult, so much so Pope Francis blurted out an in-group lavender slur. Pope Leo XIV’s focus isn't LGBTQIA+, but dominance.
Cardinal Robert Sarah is just trying to parrot the same fascistic dominance Pope Leo XIV urged for, but for Washington DC.
I hope I do not need to remind folks here how this digressive victimhood cult operates.
That's why you should vote for me next papal election. I will make the church about mana gathering and rituals to kill evil politicians. Jesus will be recognised as a true socialist and the billionares will be sacrificed for the good of humanity.

Though 'we' seems to be germans as the quote is by german philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and even before Nietzsche, the earliest accounts of 'death of god' discussions seem to originate in german lutheran culture of the 17th century.
So since god is dead and transgender rights are some modern stuff, trans rights cannot have caused the death of god.

Transgender rights have apparently such reality-bending power that they could kill that which was never real.

Ironically the only thing killing religion is demonic priests who want to use religion as a platform to hurt innocent people they don't like.
He can't actually say that and not face internal retribution from the Holy See, right? Not for the trans-phobia, but for the possible blasphemy. I understand that his statement could be taken metaphorical. But it still doesn't place a good light on senior Catholic leadership.
