Attached to some boots with fur?
Please.
I love Apple Butter!! Apples were on sale for $2 a bag last week so I got extra and made apple butter out of a bag. I use a crock pot. 1 bag of apples peeled, cored, and rough chunked with some brown and white sugar, cinnamon, and touch of salt. Cook for 10 hours.
$2 a bag? Bargain! 10 hours though? π© I'm guessing this is by slow cooking. Would there be a quicker way to make these from stove?
It's the primary usage of my slow cooker :D I'm not sure of other techniques. But I love just tossing them in on a day I'm doing house or yard projects, stirring occasionally and really making the house smell great.
I use this recipe but 1/2 it for a 3lbs bag of apples.
Apple butter? Seems interesting, what is the difference between that and Apple jam?
Apple butter is basically spiced applesauce that is cooked down more with a looser texture. Apple jam is going to be a lot stiffer in texture and typically isn't as spiced if at all in my experience. Honestly I'd still call what OP made Apple butter by the look of it
Thank you for your kind words π I did try my best either way it still tastes good.
I'm sure it does! Little trick that I use is after I've mashed down the cooked apples and put the pot in the oven I'll put a wooden spoon just inside the oven door so the moisture can escape
In addition to what was already said, you can make other fruit butters as well, not just apple. Pear, peach, and plum butter are all common.
Subjectively, I also find it a lot easier to spread on bread than jam.
Yeah, what they both said^^
Looks good! You already know that anticipated extra can be frozen? Iβve done that successfully with batches too big to eat right away but too small to carry out a full processing operation.
The consistency of your apple butter is what Iβm aiming for; it looks perfect.
Hats off to you for reusing a jar! ππΌ
We got a basket of apples for free and made apple sauce (which we put in the freezer), and apple jam (we had a leftover pack of preservation sugar that needed to get used).
Nice, I'm making and canning some this weekend. Our apple trees are crazy fruitful this year.
Nice one! Enjoy it. You've got apple trees and they're fruitful? I envy you π
Jam is more see through.

Lol I thought I was the only one having problems with this app π
I didn't realise you had to wait until the apples turn slightly brown and THEN that's when you smush them into apple butter, I got too impatient lol, next time for sure! Freeze them? Sounds good to me.
Yeah something is wrong with the app - I got error messages and didnβt think my post went through.
My apples turn brown while running them through a food processor before cooking. So I give some finely minced lemon a good half hour simmer start. When adding the brown apples the magically are no longer brown!
