What is Cyberpunk?

Cyberpunk is a science-fiction sub-genre dealing with the integration of society and technology in dystopian settings. Often referred to as “low-life and high tech,” Cyberpunk stories deal with outsiders (punks) who fight against the oppressors in society (usually mega corporations that control everything) via technological means (cyber). If the punks aren’t actively fighting against a megacorp, they’re still dealing with living in a world completely dependent on high technology.

NIN getting that Disney money. Only 90s kids can remember

"God money, I'll do anything for you."

"♪ Mouse money, just tell me what you want me to ♪"

yeah there was no chance NIN was going to do anything really experimental here, which is kindofa shame, there were a couple directions on the Events/Violence/Witch EPs that woulda been great to follow up on, or do some new kind of innovation. but there's something to be said for albums that synthesize and refine what the musician has accomplished, and the constraint of a PG-13 rating seems to have produced that type of album. I think Trent doesn't really need the money, and he's already won a couple Oscars and Grammys, I think he took this job bc he wanted to do it.

Haven't listened to it yet, but it's probably going to be the only good part of the film.

Just like the daft punk soundtrack was basically the only good part of Tron legacy

ikr I'm gonna skip the movie just so I don't associate the music with it. come to think of it I didn't watch Legacy til several years after it came out.

It's okay, not terribly original, it's about exactly what you expect when you think NIN soundtrack. Considerably darker than the last two.

My reaction watching the start of the new Tron trailer: 😃

My reaction when Jared Leto popped up: 😕

I'm listening to it rn… it isn't "cyberpunky" but the sound that made Quake II great as it was is still there.

NIN only did the soundtrack to the first Quake. The Quake II soundtrack was Sonic Mayhem.

How funny, i always thought he did QII as well. Thanks for correcting me.

I heard they wanted NIN to do the Q2 soundtrack but Trent didn’t like the direction Q2 went. I think Sonic Mayhem did a pretty good job with the Q2 soundtrack. The song Quad Machine still pops into my head randomly after all these years.
