Stupid AI, it's not a diner, it's a Mexican money exchange.

[–] tuckerm@feddit.online 13 points 2 months ago

It's actually a bank, in Mexico. It's supposed to say "DINERO." Many confused customers sit inside the bank, waiting to be served.

Maybe AI’s got an interesting accent. Doiner.

"chipped Formica table" is almost a direct copy of a line from Mona Lisa Overdrive, which takes place in a scene with similar tone. This garbage AI is ripping off William Gibson.

Content that can be tagged as “Ominous noir tone” often contains flickering neon signs, it also tends to have people eating at diners.

Ergo, copy paste series of words about flickering neon signs, inset setting of dinner.

The logic or thought is non existent, just probabilistic relations between phrases, tone, and words.

... Yes, but that's not the funny part. It's the choice of which letter to flicker.

[–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

it probably chose O because that’s the letter to mostly likely be associated with a flickering neon sign in the corpus of works is pulling from, like in “hotel” “motel” “open” “closed”.

To me at least, what’s funny isn’t the immediate mistake, but that so much money is being wasted on systems like these when mistakes like this so clearly show how limited the technology is.

I hadn't even thought of that, I think you're right.

And yeah, I think my analysis is of the 'funny haha' aspect, yours the 'funny uhoh'. I agree with yours also.

What's sad is that if I knew a human wrote this I'd find it witty or clever. A shame that now such wordplay gets assumed to be AI rather than humor.
