On X, Kirk insisted, "Gun control, like vaccines and masks, is focused on making people feel 'safe' by taking freedoms away from others. Don't fall for it."

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 56 points 2 months ago

He didn't fall for it, just kinda slumped over.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 31 points 2 months ago

He's right, just not about the right topics.

Things like the TSA changes post 9/11 are primarily security theater, ineffective security requirements that make it seem like it makes you safer while just being a waste of time.

Most of the changes in the Patriot Act removed citizen rights for "security" yet have resulted in very little else apart from removing those rights.

When you design your messaging to appeal to the most violent of people, you will get violence. Politics be damned at this point.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 18 points 2 months ago

Minor quibble: the messaging is violent. It is designed to stir (mostly negative) emotional reactions which are then used for even more violent rhetoric.

So, yes it appeals to violent people, but it also makes people hateful and violent.

There's a word for it in German: Volksverhetzung and there's law against it since after WW2. Guess why.

I once saw a car with two stickers on the bumper:

A Jesus fish and an AK-47.

[–] threeonefour@piefed.ca 20 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Out on the road today, I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac

In my town the shitty tent in front of a supermarket that for years has sold Let's Go Brandon and other dumb Trump merch recently transitioned into Grateful Dead merch and other tie-dye crap. To say Jerry Garcia is doing back flips in his grave would be an understatement.

I vaguely remember a priest having blessed his guns in Constantine ( the Keanu Reeves one).

Or perhaps it was Dogma?

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You might be confusing movies with Texas...

We genuinely have churches that'll have congregants bring in their guns en masse to have them blessed so that they'll shoot the right thing. Seriously.

Texas: the state so bad that even the dude who designed the flag rated it one star.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They just copied California's original flag.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Star Bear out of 5 is a much more accurate rating for California anyway 😁

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I just wish they would redraw the bear. He's scared right now. The bear should be neutral or angry, not scared.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

Or have two heads

[–] ruko24@programming.dev 15 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I haven't seen Constantine but George Carlin as a priest in Dogma blessed his golf clubs. That allowed them to kill a demon.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 8 points 2 months ago

That's what I'm thinking of!

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 1 points 2 months ago

The do something similar i. From dusk toll dawn. But i haven't seen that movie in like 25 years

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

In Dogma, the catholic Cardinal played by George Carlin blessed his golf clubs. Silent Bob used it to kill the demon.

And I believe all of Constantine's weapons were blessed. So he could kill demons.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

maybe we're thinking of Equilibrium?

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago

We're both hippie soy boys, and radical left violent extremists.

"the enemy is both strong and weak."

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 22 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

And that tweet is probably way older than september '25.

Which, imo, makes it more relevant, not less.

[PSA: never cut off the date]

Revelation that the Kirk shooter was a disillusioned Qanon weirdo upset about the Epstein debacle when?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

They allowed him to turn himself in... seven hours ago? and haven't plastered anything about him besides his name and major across the right wing news. that means he was one of them. if there was anything not straight white male christian conservative about him, it would be everywhere.

[–] echo@lemmings.world 14 points 2 months ago

The violent left are actually usually highly intelligent people instead of fucking morons who run around making straw man arguments on why they should own a gun.

We’re not running the department of war either

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

War is actually peace.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago

Whoa....don't point the gun up like that, you could get shot in the neck.

this reminds me of this meme:

[–] huppakee@feddit.nl 5 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Why is that middle pin on a tie? Who the fuck puts a pin there?

[–] ToxicWaste@lemmy.cafe 10 points 2 months ago

there are pins you can put on a tie. usually just a gold button or something point symmetrical. like this: DDG link, but pointing to pinterest

but i think it is quite funny, that this person 'aims' the gun at their own head...

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

That could be a tie pin. They're to pin the tie to your shirt so that it doesn't fly away on the wind or something.

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 5 points 2 months ago

It's a tie tack, that's a normal thing. But it being a gun is tacky as all getout.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

Hey..you could get shot in the neck with a gun there.

[–] vin@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 2 months ago

That’s hilarious. They look like they’re cosplaying as provos?
