This cat would need absolutely no changes to show up in a movie as some kind of ancient fey trickster being

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 38 points 2 months ago (5 children)

I wonder if they’re a chimera (i.e. started out as two embryos which fused, and has different genes depending on where you look).

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Sure looks like it

[–] QualifiedKitten@discuss.online 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That, or a photoshop. Since the dilution gene hits both colors, a tortie/calico can either be grey and cream or black(brown) and orange.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Yeah I was wondering if it was a photoshop, myself. So it's really only possible for this pic to be a chimera or a photoshop, yeah? You're saying this can't be a tortie?

[–] QualifiedKitten@discuss.online 3 points 2 months ago

Yeah, as far as I'm aware (and I spend way too much time reading about cat coat genetics), that combination of colors could only happen in a cat with 2 unique sets of DNA. I would still call that a tortie, though.

That blue eye though, I don't know enough about eye color genetics to confidently say, but the other features of the cat look like a Maine Coon, so it is possible that this cat came from a breder and there was intentional selection for eye color.

[–] PhilipTheBucket@piefed.social 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I have never seen a bright blue eye like that on an orange cat. I think Photoshop is definitely a possibility, but also, sometimes nature just does a wild artistic cat for all of us.

[–] QualifiedKitten@discuss.online 3 points 2 months ago

Looks like a Maine Coon, so probably came from a breeder, and while it's not an area I've really dug into, it looks like there are some Maine Coon breeders producing cats with blue eyes. Could naturally be blue, but the brightness definitely seems artificial.

What's a kai-mary-uh, precious?

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 4 points 2 months ago

Boil ‘em, mash ‘em, stick ‘em in a stew.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

That's clearly a Batman villain.

that's the name of a vocaloid song!
https://youtu.be/w7FtS1LFK_0

actually I didn't know that it wasn't just a Japanese word pronounced in English, so that makes a lot more sense with the lyrics as teto is frustrated at how she's canonically 30 years old but all the other vocaloids are like 16/17 and she's made out to be exactly like them.
also she's a utauloid not a vocaloid like the rest

Chimerism is a genetic trait found in all sorts of animals. It's when you're so close to your fraternal twin you wind up the same organism. Sometimes it does cool stuff like making your eyes different colors or giving you a clearly defined change in hair color at a point. Others get fun little Easter eggs inside our bodies that show up at inconvenient times like people failing the genetic parenting test of someone they gave birth to or extra body parts. It can also cause serious issues if it manifests as mosaicism.

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 4 points 2 months ago

I know nothing about vocaloids so I have no context here, but I can tell you that "chimera" is a word that English borrowed from ancient Greek, which is why it doesn't sound much like a usual English word. There's an old Greek myth about a hero called Bellerophon slaying a monster called the chimera, and since the mythical chimera is a hybrid of several animals we adopted the word as a more general term

Such a pretty cat 😍

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Jesus that’s a beautiful cat. And I didn’t even really like cats.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Kind of funny to be in a cat sub haha. :)

The all page is the only one I use on lemmy. Every time I try to browse an individual community that I’m interested in it has like 3 posts from 2 weeks ago and nothing recent at all.

Looks like your printer ran out of ink there

Edit: cool cat, 11/10, would definitely love one like it

[–] justsquigglez@leminal.space 15 points 2 months ago

He looks like he may have... wares. If you have the coin.

[–] Townlately@feddit.nl 14 points 2 months ago

Looks like the perfect being exists after all

[–] iamanurd@midwest.social 11 points 2 months ago

This cat is amazing!!

[–] TurkishKebab@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Does this Cat have homophobia?

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Wouldn't know. Not my cat

[–] iamanurd@midwest.social 2 points 2 months ago

Typo, or do you have a reason to suspect bigotry from the fine feline? 😉

Cat: Am I a punchline to you? I murder motherfuckers for a living Jessica

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

Closer to Halloween, and this consummate planeswalker does so for an unliving Jessica, no doubt.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

If that is a real image that damn well better be its name.

[–] Okokimup@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

You can tell this cat was in an accident and had to get the front hood replaced.

Sure, but, aren't we on the Fedi? Or, you mean, this specific cat is posted on bsky?

Would have to meet the cat in person to truly judge its character. Interesting beastie if real though!
