My Aethos is ready! (lemmy.world)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by Etnaphele@lemmy.world to c/bicycling@lemmy.world

My unnecessarily fancy bike is 100% ready to ride: it took much less than expected, but I learned a lot along the way: cut steerer, route cables, shorten brake lines, set up Di2, tubeless tires, more bar tape practice and the list could go on. It was a lot of fun and I feel in complete control and knowledge of what I ride, it’s a good feeling.

As pictured, minus bidons, weighs in at 7,6kg (size 58). Considerably less than 10% of ~~driver~~ rider weight, to put it in perspective. I think I’ll need 160mm rotors at the back: can someone chime in on this? How’s the jump from 140 to 160mm at the back for heavy riders? I have a GRX groupset with 160/160 on my gravel bike and never had issues, maybe road is less demanding.

Customary photos (still practicing with flash fill outdoors + a swarm of mosquitos disrupted any planning I had in mind and had to rush a bit):

Love the colour!

In terms of rotors I run 160 on the rear and find it fine, I'm not doing any mountain descents or anything though. I am 85kg.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll keep an eye on it. I’d really like to do some ascents with this.

Nice paint job.

@Etnaphele Nice.

I wouldn't jump into worrying about increasing the rear rotor size. It is unlikely that you'll ever notice the rear overheating, unless doing things to intentionally create it.

@Etnaphele Oh, and very nice photos!

Ok, thanks! I’ll keep that in check and see if I notice fading in the future.

Damn, that is gorgeous! Nicely done!

Thanks! I’m proud of it :) Cannot wait to ride it for more than 1km around my place

Sehr schon!

That's such a clean build - simple and effective! Its definitely a "quiet luxury" bike!

Propping it up by the pedal made me anxious - but it's cool to see it finished.

Spaß haben!

Out of curiosity, is "driver" a common term for cycling where you are?

[–] Etnaphele@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Just a sloppy translation from the German Fahrer, thanks for pointing that out! Should be rider or cyclist, right?

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 2 points 5 months ago

Yup! I had wondered if that was the case. I've heard it for motorcycling before here, but not for bicycling.

[–] moira@mastodon.murkworks.net 1 points 5 months ago

@fmstrat @Etnaphele Definitely not. I've never heard that anywhere, I don't think.
