These days, I'm really trying for there not to be.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The kebab shop down the road makes burgers too and they're better than everything I've had from one of the large chains while still distinctly feeling like junk food.

[–] memfree@piefed.social 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Is it that they spice the patties or something else? What's the liklihood their burgers are mixed meat? Like maybe goat + beef?

[–] breecher@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago

Very low. Goat meat is expensive.

[–] rammer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I don't remember the last time I had a fast food burger. And I would like to keep it that way. Thank you.

BK Impossible with no mayo

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

If I have to pick a burger, then same! But if we're talking vegan fast food options than my first choice is always gonna be fresco style burritos at 🌮 🔔

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago

I miss the fiesta veggie burrito so much

Five Guys is the only one I would be okay with. McDonalds is probably the worse, followed by wendys being 2nd worst. BurgerKing is... um... its like good for like your first try, then subsequent times it taste worse and worse each time you got there.

I don't eat a lot of burgers so I probably don't know what a "good" burger taste like, I grew up in an Asian household so I don't exactly eat a lot of "western" food for the most of my life (like... relatively speaking, in comparison to the rest of the US).

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

West coast dude that has visited all over the US. I’ve had BK/McD’s, Whataburger, Jack in the box, In-N-Out, Carl’s Jr, Smashburger, Sonic, Shake Shack, White Castle, Five Guys, A&W, and maybe a couple more I’ve forgotten. Best for me, hands down:

Culver’s butter burger with cheese and everything on it.

Double teen burger from A&W.

Has enough meat with the double patty, and has all the toppings like onion, pickle, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, etc.

In n out dbl dbl

Assuming the question means fast food chain

Second is dbl cheeseburger from McD, hate me if you need to

[–] TheReanuKeeves@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

There's something about McDonald's paper thin patties, greasy buns, and rehydrated onions that really hits the spot

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think there is a window of perfection for peak enjoyment. Your description is spot on. It’s purely a McD’s sensory experience.

Can’t tell if that’s sarcasm but you actually nailed it… it’s nostalgia food for me, I used to eat these as a kid

Nando's' double cheese and bacon burger with added pineapple and hot basting

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

None of them? I find it’s worth the extra $2 to go somewhere local or “fast casual”. Places like McDonalds , Wendy’s, and Burger King are overpriced garbage these days.

Good Times is a smaller chain and my favorite

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

So this is weird, but where I grew up there was a local, non-chain restaurant with 2 locations called Good Times. It was a combination Chinese, American and pizza joint. They don't have the location one town south of my childhood town, but the one I went to most is still there.

I don't suppose the one you're talking about is the same place...? 🤔

Sweden has a hamburger chain named 'Mr York' and they are amazing!

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Only one I can eat, impossible whopper. I wish they would go all in and use the superior black bean burger instead tho

When McDonald's gets an equivalent, they're going to make so much money off of me

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Best I've cooked: Oklahoma onion burgers

Best I've bought: green chilli burger from Meat Liquor Covent Garden though sadly they don't seem to have that location any more and the green chilli burger is no longer on their menu!

[–] TheReanuKeeves@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I've always preferred smashing my burgers over a bed of onions and today I learned it has a name

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 2 points 11 months ago

They're so good, so flavourful. Love them.

[–] EchoCranium@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

When I was a kid my dad would take us to Halo Burger in the Flint, Michigan area once in a while. Haven't gone in decades, since I grew up and moved away from the state. Something about how the burger was seasoned, just delicious. Nowadays I usually stop by Culver's for a double deluxe, now that there's one not far from the house (did earlier today, actually).

[–] TheReanuKeeves@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Everyone keeps saying culver's and my Canadian ass is so curious

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (3 children)

The only fast food burgers I eat happen to be White Castle single cheeseburger.

small Cheval for regional chain & Culver’s for national.

[–] TheReanuKeeves@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Do they make horse burgers??

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I only recently learned the answer is "no"! For years I was wondering why people were lining up around the block to eat horse.

[–] TheReanuKeeves@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Very misleading name. I've also written to Panda Express corporate about why I can't get a rack of panda ribs there too.

My options are severely limited since I don’t eat meat, but The Habit makes a really nice veggie burger. They have one of the fake meat burger brands as well, but those honestly make me gag a little with how greasy they are.

[–] TheReanuKeeves@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I've had impossible burgers and they're surprisingly good but so damn expensive

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 11 months ago

It's a toss up between a Wendy's Baconator and the Jack-in-the-Box Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger.

Or a classic Double Double from In-n-Out if you can consider an hour+ long wait in line "fast" food.

[–] adaveinthelife@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 months ago (5 children)

Out of the big three, the whopper by far.

For smaller but still top 100 chains, locally would be A&W, non local would be In-n-Out

There's a regional chain in LA called Tom's Jr. It offered unbeatable value like its Big Mac clone that went for $3.50 until they very recently bumped the price up to $5 each.

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

There's a small chain in Wichita Kansas called Bionic Burger. The double with cheese and fried onions is the most reliable way to introduce someone to that true Americana flavor. Side of fries and a cherry malt, it's not something you should eat but damned if you don't enjoy every second of it.
