Biden's latest attempt to convince everyone he has what it takes to stay in the race will air at 6:30 PM Eastern / 3:30 PM Pacific.

More on where and how to watch here:

https://apnews.com/article/how-to-watch-biden-press-conference-a70590e7574fc9680229b6b6289f6a02

My expectation is that it will be on all the usual sources. CNN, MSNBC, etc. etc. with in depth coverage on the talking head shows later tonight.

Edit Conference is running ~~20+~~ 50+ minutes late after already being pushed back 1 hour from 5:30 to 6:30.

Not sure if that's good news or bad news.

Here we go! 58 minutes late, but he's on a roll talking about NATO.

Oh, snap! Reminding everyone that Article 5 has only been used once... 9/11.

Speech ran less than 10 minutes, but was a strong speech, now the questions.

Fumbles on the first answer, calling out "Vice President Trump". :(

Ended after almost an hour with one final question on "Vice President Trump" - Biden's answer "Listen to him." End conference.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it went!

Media is seething rn. They wanted Biden to break down and start sobbing on stage. He basically told them they were stupid for running a major story about a minor flub this afternoon.

They are mad that Biden turned their accusations into a boring press conference about NATO and his accomplishments.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Its not a L like his interview or his debate. Its also not a W, its.. questions about industrial policy and NATO.

It looks like he's having a good day. But can it resolve issues around Biden on a bad day?

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He has flubbed a few words, but has a clear train of thought so far in the speech.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

It was all teleprompter then "vp trump".

The next question was asking about that. But didn't mention vo trump?

I think they had to get them approved. And Biden isn't mentioning it in his answer

The guy asking the first question flubbed some words. And had his facts wrong about the UAW. Maybe he's crazy and shouldn't be a journalist?

I want to see a top story on this on every website: Reuters-guy-gate

[–] spaduf@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 year ago

His facts weren't wrong. The UAW has just changed their tune since yesterday.

The #1 thing I was looking for is Biden's face when someone is talking to him.

During the debate and the interview with Stephanopoulos, he had this vacant, slack jawed look like he didn't know where he was or what was going on.

So far, he has completely avoided that. He looks active and engaged.

Not a great sign that this praise sounds like the doctor's notes from my toddler's last check-up.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's just so fucking surreal that people keep trying to say this is ok...

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's also fucking surreal that so many people think they know everything.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Yep. Like when Biden ordered every federal agency back to the office

For pretty much no reason. He just thought he knew better than every agency head and apparently this was what he wanted to actually put effort behind.

It's weird, one of the few things he really did on his own, and it never gets brought up

Well, started real bad, but it's starting to stabilize...

[–] WoahWoah@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, his commander in chief told him to buck up and focus.

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is this boosting anyone's confidence on Biden staying in the race?

This is Biden's first press conference this year.

Adding context: This will be his first formal solo news conference since November 2023. Biden also holds the fewest news conferences since Ronald Reagan.https://apnews.com/live/election-biden-trump-campaign-updates-07-11-2024

fewest news conferences since Ronald Reagan

Weird...

I wonder what else we find out Joe and Ronnie had in common...

Edit:

Right before he came out, they said first in 8 months.

Also, Biden just fucking ran out there and immediately went off on a speech...

I've never seen man's walk that fast in my life.

[–] Thedogspaw@midwest.social 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Biden looked ok he made joke got mad about gun violence took shots at trump still needs to do more but this is a decent first step to show he can actually win

I really want to see Biden as the last man standing... let the conference run 3 hours.

"C'mon, man! Ask me your questions! Ohhhh are you all getting 'too tired'? Do you need to go home for naps?"

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

WHATS THIS? IT’S BIDEN FROM THE TOP ROPE!

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

IS THAT A FOLDING CHAIR?!!

[–] HomerianSymphony@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

let the conference run 3 hours.

That’s not a good idea. His bedtime is 8.

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is this from memory/notes or teleprompter?

[–] WoahWoah@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Teleprompter.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He did alright. Alright isn't enough. He needed a homerun to unfuck this, and he hit a single. I think from here on out, Biden is a detriment to the party ticket. If he stays in, our fight becomes much harder.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

I would have agreed with that analogy up until that last question. He seems to have this thing about not knowing when to quit..

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So there's a premade list of who gets to ask a question?

Also. Joe's all jacked up on mountain dew and just fucking said trump is his vice president....

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, otherwise you'd have a room full of reporters yelling "Mr. President! Mr. President!"

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Have em line up like comic con.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago
[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Bets he doesn't show?

[–] WoahWoah@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Like three times, and then said he'd beat Trump a second later...

I don't think he realized.

[–] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 year ago

This is just sad.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel like this is going to be a nothing burger, but lets discuss the history of presidential news conferences:

https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/statistics/data/presidential-news-conferences

So I think the above statitstic is a bit misleading because it doesn't single out solo conferences.

https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/analyses/bidens-solo-news-conferences-perspective

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I just saw a stat saying he hasn't had a full cabinet meeting since last October? So take press conferences out of it... it's kind of dire how low a profile Biden is maintaining.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/11/politics/joe-biden-age-decline-democrats-angry/index.html

"Ahead of closed-door Cabinet meetings that Biden attends, it is customary for Cabinet officials to submit questions and key talking points that they plan to present in front of Biden ahead of time to White House aides, two sources with direct knowledge told CNN.

“The entire display is kind of an act,” one of those sources told CNN. “They would come and say, ‘Hey, the president is going to call on you about 25 minutes in, and ask this question. What are the bullet points you’ll respond with?’”

The second source, who echoed that same description, said when Biden attends Cabinet meetings, they are “not free-wheeling, and pretty well-orchestrated.” And the meetings themselves are infrequent, with one Cabinet secretary telling CNN they are uncertain of Biden’s condition because they so rarely see him.

In fact, the last full Cabinet meeting took place on October 2, 2023. Sources also said Cabinet meetings during the Obama years, which Biden attended as vice president, were not pre-scripted this way."
