Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

MODERATORS

A federal judge has permanently blocked the restrictions Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republican lawmakers placed on handling race-related issues in workplace training – part of the controversial Individual Freedom Act, better known as the “Stop WOKE Act.

The act was one of several bills the Republican governor signed in 2022 as part of his war on “woke ideology.” It was intended to prevent teachings or mandatory workplace activities that suggest a person is privileged or oppressed based on their race, color, sex or national origin.

On Friday, Chief US District Judge Mark Walker issued a two-page order granting a permanent injunction against the law’s workplace training provisions. The order says the law “violates free speech rights under the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the US Constitution.”

DeSantis: A loser for life.

I know it's a "permanent" injunction because it's the next step from a "temporary" one. But is any injunction really permanent with this Supreme Court looking over its shoulder?

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 23 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This feels like a favor to DeSantis because it can now likely be taken up the ladder to (surprise) the Supreme Court.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

That’s the entire game right now, bring batshit things to the Supreme Court and get batshit precedents set. If we manage to get out of this current clusterfuck still intact as a democracy/country we’re gonna need some extreme court reform and aggressive legislation

CNN is left Center? The fuck are you on? What a useless bot this is.

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm getting a bit annoyed at the consistent MB/FC bashing. CNN Digital is also rated "Lean Left" by AllSides, and Ad Fontes. So that's three different Media Bias organizations that have given CNN Digital the same rating. So MB/FC is bang on against their peers.

Now you may be from another Country where "Lean Left" isn't an accurate description of CNN Digital but I'd remind you that this article is from an American Media outlet in regards to an American Political issue. So that the fact that CNN Digital would be considered "Ultra far right wing" somewhere else in the world doesn't matter. *This is American Media covering American politics and by American political standards CNN is, in fact, "Leans Left". *Get over it.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

CNN has never leaned left. They certainly don't even come close to appearing to anymore. The fact that there's three terribly inaccurate ratings out there doesn't change that. Not going to get over it. Going to keep bitching about it. Don't like it? Don't read it.

CNN has never leaned left.

Every organization that rates Bias in media disagree with you.

The fact that there’s three terribly inaccurate ratings out there doesn’t change that.

Yes, obviously everyone else is wrong and you hold the objectively correct opinion.

Don’t like it? Don’t read it.

Yep, and I suggest you do so.

It shouldn't be up to each user to block garbage. It should just not be posted in the first place.
