Call it what it is: American Auschwitz

[–] Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 34 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Let's collectively remember that Hitler was inspired by the colonisers of the Americas and their methods of destroying the population of natives so they could move in. America is the inspiration for concentration camps. Not Nazi Germany.

Reading material: A Brief History of US Concentration Camps

The country was borne of blood and evil, superiority complex and genocide, and the current administration are keen to restore that brutality.

Alligator Auschwitz.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Eh, not yet. We're probably looking more at Dachau for a few months at least.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 day ago

Crocodachau?

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Can you elaborate on the distinction you're making?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Dachau was one of the first concentration camps built by the Nazis, meant to house political opponents, and at the start didn't have forced labor. Then, to quote Wikipedia,

After its opening by Heinrich Himmler, its purpose was enlarged to include forced labor, and eventually, the imprisonment of Jews, Romani, Germans, and Austrians that the Nazi Party regarded as criminals, and, finally, foreign nationals from countries that Germany occupied or invaded.

The treatment was certainly brutal and there was forced labor and torture, but it was ultimately a concentration camp, not a death camp like Auschwitz. Compare Dachau's 41.5k deaths out of 188k prisoners to Auschwitz's 1.1 million out of 1.3 million. My point is that they won't jump straight to death camps or the brutal treatment we associate with concentration camps. That kind of stuff will come later, when MAGA has consolidated power more, but for now they'll stick to "just" imprisonment. First Dachau, then more Dachau, then Auschwitz.

Eh, Auschwitz took nearly two years to convert from camp to gas chambers, and sounds better paired with alligator. Potato, potato from my perspective.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 5 points 1 day ago

Fair enough.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago

It's The Everglades Concentration Camp.

We should not call this what they want us to call it. Do Not Comply. Resist and speak the truth!

I hope we on Lemmy and elsewhere can start a trend of refusing to parrot their bullshit talking points and speak the Truth instead of spreading their propaganda for them.

I hate that the media and the public immediately parrots whatever 1984-speak terminology they roll out, letting them define the narrative and pacify people to accept their atrocities as normal.

(Likewise, it's not the "big beautiful bill", it's the "Kill Americans to Pay Billionaires" bill. January 6 was not a "protest by patriots", but an armed insurrection, etc. etc. etc.)

Alligator Auschwitz

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 42 points 1 day ago (1 children)

there are too many people actively cheering these concentration camps

[–] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is that a quote from c.1940?

Oh this is good. Nicely done!

[–] 0li0li@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

FFS, didn't take long for you guys to get something better than his fucking wall: proper concentration camps! And those seem much more realistic and affordable this time around. Every Americans will be paying for them and sadly could end up there if they don't walk the line.

Better use that 2nd amendment quick before they take that away too. Trump was already clear that he does not support guns and started getting mental health tied to gun control.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

Dear Trump Administration: nobody asked for a remake of the holocaust. Come up with something original

I was speaking with some locals from central Washington state and they believe one is to be built there as well. Omak area somewhere.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How bad are Americans going to let it get before they do something? Will they finally realize they should stand up for what's right when they're being pushed into the cell?

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 3 points 20 hours ago

It's still america. As long as gas is cheap and the factory meat is flowing, how bad can a little concentration camp be?

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

if you think there are no Americans doing anything, you aren't paying attention

[–] ThePiedPooper@discuss.online 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If Americans were doing "something", DC would be burning to the ground already like in 1812. The French would have destroyed Paris by now. They have for much less.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca -1 points 16 hours ago

Cute little parades don’t count.

No Americans are doing anything that matters.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Walking down the street with a sign isn't going to stop fascists.

[–] ThePiedPooper@discuss.online 3 points 1 day ago

You are correct.
