Ah we didn't! It just worked out that everyone already had it cached on their instances, so when the original went away the cache kept everything around. The local host is the only one without all the posts.
Also while I lose sub numbers, it seems to still send the posts to those who were subscribed before the swap. But some instances are taking longer to accept the new site.

As asked on the Matrix channel, I thought there was an issue with signing keys preventing this kind of instance replacement from happening, has this been solved?
