For reeeeal, I want an internet univeristy town. If I wanted to deal with a dumptruck full of dickbags all the time, I would move to Boston and go back on reddit.
Its hard to say, because I also want more niche hobbies to actually have content on lemmy. Ideally I want reddit users that only look at the front page to stay there, and every hobby subreddit user to come over.
I thought about starting an extremely niche community and the moment I finish posting, I actually don't want to deal with commenters/posting regularly/moderating.

As far as I’m aware, in the US, the only mandated and enforced expiration dates by law are for baby food manufacturers.
Everything else is a vendor suggestion.
And don’t feed the trolls.
The US market regulations (except California for some reason) are surreal. $7.25 minimum wage, chlorinated chicken, bleached flour, lying labels etc.

Isn't it amazing how thousands of years of technological advancements have led to the marvelous invention that allows us to have civil, deep, intelligent conversations with people on another side of the far away at speeds that our ancestors could never have imagined?
I think our mistake is assuming that our ancestors wouldn't have also asked if your parents were related and farted as a hilarious insult over a stupid disagreement.
People have always been people. We just do it faster now. And probably quite a bit less violently.

Why censor usernames?
Because people WILL go and harass users whose names they've seen in screenshots. Sure it's usually not hard to find them anyway but you don't have to make it extra easy, do you?
