Historical Artifacts

1320 readers
132 users here now

Just a community for everyone to share artifacts, reconstructions, or replicas for the historically-inclined to admire!

Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

Generally speaking, ruins should go to !historyruins@lemmy.world

Illustrations of the past should go to !historyillustrations@lemmy.world

Photos of the past should go to !HistoryPorn@lemmy.world

Weird they went with a blond moustache... and weird that there's a moustache at all.

Aaahhhh...

Gilded copper ue-ba (teeth) and a striking bristle kuchihige (moustache) are distinctive features of this mask and provide a confident and handsome visual.

Except still what?

I miss your explanations pug jesus. I read the link but please share your insights on who the Ryby and Ressei men are.

Unfortunately, I only have a very shallow understanding of Edo period Japan! A lot of these things I share because I find them interesting on a surface level, but have no deeper insight into the history of them, sadly!
