Core 2 Duo is really a wild name choice for this watch? Like I thought it was running on an old Intel processor and could not figure out how that made any sense
Well, the Pentium 2 wouldn't fit, you see.
The new company is called Core devices, it's using old stock Pebble 2 cases to make the watch, and apparently the Duo stands for "do-over" - though I'm fairly sure they realized the c2d joke after the "core 2" part and just ran with it.
oooh ok i guess i can see where they're coming from with that.
“Core 2 Duo” sure is an unfortunate name for a tech product. They couldn’t pick something better?
Athlon maybe? Or a random number like 486.
Now we’re getting somewhere. Maybe something hip and new like Pentium

The software they are using is the original PebbleOS that was open-sourced only a few months ago (Pebble -> Fitbit -> Google -> Open Source) , so the "it can't tell time" is just that they haven't yet completed all the firmware changes necessary to enable the real-time clock in the completely new hardware they are using.
But it sure does sound hilarious when taken out of context.

How do you fit a laptop CPU in a watch? I think I'll stick with my Casio that runs for more than 5 years on a coin cell.
The Core 2 Duo originally used a 65nm process. If they're making new CPUs with a more modern process they could be significantly smaller than the old chips.
But this is Intel we are talking about so more like 65nm+++++++ "modern"
I enjoyed my pebble time, but I think I'll steer clear of this until it's out based on history.
Really enjoying ditching the smartwatch and using a Citizen solar/atomic analog, which should go 10+ years without needing a new battery. Really tired of remembering to charge it when traveling, and buzzing notifications on a smartwatch wasn't a interruption I need.
i mean you can turn notifications off (unless it's really fucking terrible), and my $80 xiaomi smart band 8 lasts more than a week with my settings, and in power saving mode (which is just time and step counting) it doubles my battery life.
Ahh! Its the new watch 95, 98, ME, XP, 2000!
