Hey now for every 5,000 "No's" there's the coveted 1 "Maybe but more data is required".

Maybe if you're really lucky, one day you can get a "Yes, but..... also no."

This is how the science do

Theory needs data. Data hates theory. It is a love story for the ages.

I like to think that data doesn't hate theory, it just has highly particular tastes. Like this lil octopus guy in a plastic cup, who spends a while rejecting shells before finding one it's happy to abandon its cup for. https://youtu.be/DTJbdy097m0

Imagining the data as a cute octopus helps with the rage when nothing goes right 🙃

RIP in pieces, every supersymmetry based theory :(

[–] someacnt@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is there a new observation regarding supersymmetry?

Couldn't tell ya. Iirc SUSY based theories were pretty much all killed by data by the time the LHC reached 12TeV collisions, and I've been in a different field since then

data be bitching like this unless you work for a private company in which case you are told to make data the company's bitch

A theory is valid only when no proof to the contrary is known, after which the theory must be adjusted to accommodate the new findings, or discarded.

Ah yes, systemic biases definitely don't exist in research because researchers are perfectly indiscriminate human beings and poor research has never led to swaths of the population being hurt or neglected. /s
