Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The firms — Perkins Coie and WilmerHale — have said the orders imposed in March are unconstitutional assaults on the legal profession that threaten their relationships with clients and retaliate against them based either on their past legal representations or their association with particular attorneys who Trump perceives as his adversaries.

Courts last month temporarily halted enforcement of key provisions of both orders, but the firms are in court Wednesday asking for the edicts to be struck down in their entirety and for judges to issue rulings in their favor. Another firm, Jenner & Block, is expected to make similar arguments next week.

“Although Perkins Coie did not bring this suit lightly, it was compelled to do so to preserve its ability to continue representing the best interests of its clients,” lawyers for Perkins Coie wrote in a filing ahead of the hearing. “The Constitution does not permit our elected leaders, from any party, to punish lawyers by fiat for representing clients who oppose their political agendas. It would set a grave precedent for our Republic if the Order were allowed to stand.”

You know you're in deep shit when law firms are the good guys

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Weren't a bunch of founding fathers lawyers? John Adams?

[–] andallthat@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

the joke was on law firms, not individual lawyers.

When you read about them on the news, they are usually associated with protecting the very rich from accountability, like the NFL Vs concussed players, Big Tobacco Vs people they knowingly gave cancer to or various Wall Street criminals.

he has threatened sevaral of them by pulling funding away if they do not cave to his demands, eg supporting conservatives that are in trouble with the law.

No, all of his executive orders are unconstitutional assaults and political power-plays. He's been trying to shortcut and speed-run his corruption through with as little process as possible.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago

Yep.

The only solution is his removal. Yeah - already. He's proven he's not interested in running a lawful administration and that is unacceptable.

Honest question. Do you think that he's trying to speed-run USA into a civil war and/or war against other countries to implement martial law? Most of the time, accusations turns out to be confessions. I mean, he accused Zelensky of being a dictator and not holding elections.

Yeah, at which point no one will be able to stop the Human experimentation and breeding program. Vaccine denial and autism are being used to cull the weak and justify Eugenics. It's exactly what China has been doing with The Uyghurs and Crispr, only dressed up to look like a logical progression of democracy. It's Peter Thiel and Elon Musk.

Only once it’s a problem for the lawyers do they start speaking up.

[–] twistypencil@lemmy.world 30 points 10 months ago

That is unfair. Plenty of immigration attorneys have been standing up for other people at their own expense.
