Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in [email protected]. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media. Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to any of the mods: @[email protected], @[email protected], or @[email protected].

Sometimes I think he competes a little too hard with his boss in that new sport:

Making it difficult to tell reality from satire.

Does anyone really care what Vancy says? I feel like he is more like background noise in today's news picture 🀭

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

whenever I see any opinion from this shell of a person, I feel the exact same way. Same as Trump: toddler background chatter.

Vance is what Medwedew is to Putin. Similar character arc too.

If your pet dog could talk...

"It's Europe's fault that the Iraq War - a war that my party started and Trump publicly supported - happened in the first place."

What a clown.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago

First thought: wasn't it the US who started the Iraq war back then?

He also said EU capitals could have done more to oppose Washington over the Iraq War.

Oh yeah, clown world. 🀑

Personally I've stopped listening to what he and his boss says. They way they have been blurbing random things out and pulling them back when the dumbster isnon fire, makes it very hard to take any of it seriously. So why listen in the first place.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 week ago

They should listen, right now do more to do the US. Don't listen make other trade deals, their the same shit back to them, stop taking them serious, put them in the penalty box now.

That there be pretzel logic. Twisted, salty, toasted.

"I'm important, i have something to say, i have an opinion on something..."

EU: "Nah, whatever"

Well ironically he's right about that, Europe should have put a stop to the warmongering of Bush Jr and his little toothless puppy dog Tony Blair. That war should never have been allowed to happen in the first place.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Bush could have done it without the UK and Poland. Not that their support didn't matter at all, but I don't think they could have prevented that war.

Sanctions against the US could have been a good idea, except it basically would have meant destroying NATO.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

It would have been worth it. That war destroyed much of western credibility.

JD Vance can go suck a fuck!!

~~What's the name for this type of news just meant to anger? But if it makes us dislike the US more, maybe I'm for it? ~~

After reading the article, he is right. The title is just shit

US Vice President JD Vance called on Europe to show greater independence in an interview published on Tuesday, urging countries not to be "US vassals."

We should stop being US vassals.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The subtext to "don't be vassals" is a hearty "fuck off". And that's basically all he meant to say, I suspect. And tbh, I am starting to question whether his advice of forging a European path is actually good, given who it's coming from. Otoh, there is an angle from which European armament could be profitable to him, and that is US arms sales.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

Can we please stop processing every history revisionist bullshit from that regime into news that make them sound like legit opinion pieces?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

He said what now?

Alcoholic mad his friends didnβ€˜t stop him from downing a whiskey bottle while he was throwing punches. Donβ€˜t worry. Next time, youβ€˜ll be on your own.
