I'm a few hours from a host city and want to go but may become prohibitively expensive and I haven't put any deposits or anything down yet.

Personally no.
More and more I'm starting to believe that world cup is slowly loosing it's glare. Just like with the Olympics every new Championship will have weaker public interest than the last.
Statistics don't back up that argument though. While the Olympics may not sell out completely, the percentage of tickets sold relative to tickets available has been 90% or more since the 2008 Summer Olympics.

And even on an entertainment level I personally thought the Paris Olympics was an amazing event (sickness from swimming in the Seine aside).
Well, I live in a host city, so I've already put deposits down for seats. I refused to go to Russia and to Qatar, and couldn't find anyone to go with me to Brazil. I'm fucking going to at least one game, but if I didn't live in the US then I would either boycott it like I did Russia and Qatar or would go to Canada or Mexico for a game.
Time for the USA to do a bit of Saudi and Russia style sportswashing
I wasn't planning already, but now there's no way
Planning on it!!
I'm in Canada. 😂🇨🇦
