[EU] Stop Killing Games:


The consumer movement to stop game publishers from disabling older games with kill switches after official support ends.


The goal is to reach 1 million signatures so that the european parliament will respond to the petition that then leads to game ownership protections enacted for consumers.

Ubisoft: 'You don’t own your games.' Me: 'Cool, so when I uninstall The Crew, I’ll send you an invoice for storage fees since it’s technically YOUR property.'"

Also, The Crew was supposed to last until 2099? Bro, Ubisoft can’t even keep their servers alive for a weekend, let alone 76 years.

To mitigate the issue, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a California bill into law in 2024 to force companies to more prominently display a note that consumers are buying a license and don’t technically own the game itself.

Great fucking job gavin you really threaded that needle to do absolutely fucking nothing while legislating to the benefit of corporate interests. This is why people hate liberals. Instead of doing anything you'd rather do nothing and act like it was world shattering.

Could've just solved the "buying a license" issue in that session but chose to validate and codify it into law instead.
