I have my keyboard and mouse plugged up to a powered hub. I switch it off when I'm not at the computer. Step one every morning or evening is to brush or sometimes vacuum the hairs off the keyboard. Its his favorite place to hang out when I'm not around.

Keep a box next to your monitor, and they will happily climb into it and go to sleep. Works every time.
