Didn't think geek sell something similar years ago?

I remember as students we would hide it in each other's rooms and you only knew it was found when it showed up somewhere else

Yes, and I got one and a friend of mine was livid after I used it on him. Took him a month to find it, his mom was pissed and it was a whole thing.

Still fun, though

There's a homemade version of this I've heard of where they incorporated a photodiode or something, so it wouldn't go off in the presence of light, making it even harder to find lol

Had a small electronics class in high school. Our final project was to take what we learned and build something. I built basically one of these but with a dial that would change the length/pitch of the beep it made. Every 3-5 minutes. I took it and hit it in the drop down ceiling of my French (language) classroom. The teacher pegged me as the prankster after the second beep. Still fun.

The teacher pegged me

That escalated quickly

This device was one of our main projects to build in our electronics class, all 25 of us built one and then they were pretty much all placed around the school.

I got one of a screaming goat and left it in the ceiling at my old job. I thought about getting a cat meowing one but didn't want to commit to someone busting out the drywall to rescue an imaginary cat.

Heard from my old boss it took them 3 days to find the thing.

We actually had hidden a cat noise maker in the ceiling of the break room. Didn't last long, though. Easy to access sub-ceilings.

Ugh I have a cricket infestation right now and it's so obnoxious. This is true evil.

"you can get 6–packs of these for"

"I'll take 17, please"

[–] Quadhammer@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Where do I get this and what do I have to search for to find it?
