Summary

A libertarian legal group backed by Charles Koch and Leonard Leo has filed a lawsuit challenging Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Chinese imports, arguing he unlawfully invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

The group, New Civil Liberties Alliance, claims only Congress can impose tariffs and warns Trump's actions violate the Supreme Court’s “major questions” doctrine.

The suit reflects growing GOP dissent, with Senators Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, and others also pushing to rein in Trump’s trade powers amid economic fallout and plunging markets.

The monster they created has gotten out of their control.

Leonard Leo is a horrible human being, and one that would normally stay in the shadows. His name surfacing is an interesting matter indeed.

An excellent ProPublica article from 2023 gives some insight: https://www.propublica.org/article/we-dont-talk-about-leonard-leo-supreme-court-supermajority

He's a traitor, and an insurrectionist, and should be treated as such.

Fat chance of that happening.

I've never heard of this guy. Thanks for sharing!

Also damn what a stupid name

I always thought that the villain in the Clerks animted series, Leonardo Leonardo, was a reference to him since he was a billionaire looking to control everything.

Edit: Oh also the real Leonardo Leo is literally from New Jersey...

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Illegally doing everything else, from breaking and entering and stealing data with unvetted and unconfirmed people like fElon. Kidnapping people off streets.

All fine.

But fuck with THEIR money? Katy bar the door....

The only thing they truly care about, when they have more than 1,000 people could spend in 1,000 lifetimes.

The puppet cut his string and the master isn't too happy. This is one is for the history books.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, that's when happens when you think you can control a megalomaniacal lunatic.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago

Hey, he got his brilliant ideas from Peter Navarro, oops, I mean "Ron Vara".

I mean, I keep asking if this can get any more stupid, but these people keep blowing on by the former records for stupidity.

As much as I'd like to see the Koch's take it on the chin i hope he wins this one.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

My first thought: oh, the Kochs are involved. Something may change.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Koch is old guard, they already lost too much influence.

It’s just drama that will not change that many things

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

That's possible. I would imagine if real (Thiel) money orders differently, that's what it's going to be.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Right!! Never thought I'd be siding with a Koch. I'm feeling dirty now, gonna go take a shower...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago

These guys marshalled every resource they had to astroturf any Republican not sufficiently eager to fight Obama, a man who shares an identical economic ideology as the person who they considered to be the best President ever.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm torn. If the Koch brothers don't want it, I want it. 💀💀💀 What even is this fucking timeline.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago

One is dead, so there’s that.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

I don't mind tariffs on china. Stop the ones on our friends.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

Seriously, what the fuck did these idiots think was going to happen? Did they think he was kidding when he kept blathering about tariffs (again)?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

Love to see right wingers tear each other apart.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

I'd like for them both to win the court case AND go broke. Please and thank you, Jebus.

“This statute authorizes specific emergency actions like imposing sanctions or freezing assets to protect the United States from foreign threats,” the alliance said in a statement.

Except the problem here is, trump himself is doing exactly what putin wants and destroying the US. He is the foreign paid threat.

Someone's gotta do the legolas and gimly meme for this

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

The one where gimly still says they aren't friends for sure.
