Elizabeth Olsen says she's been in Marvel for so long that she has to prove Marvel movies are not the art she consumes.

I don't think it's particularly embarrassing to just admit she does it for the money, especially for an actress of her caliber.

Look at Lady Gaga as an example of making a living off generic commercial product. She made typical pop but was very catchy. All of her publicity stunts were just that: publicity stunts. She made herself THE name to invite, THE name to know. She banked the cash until she had fuck-you levels of money and income to unleash her artistic freedom. Gaga sold out so Stefanie lives free.

It probably felt a lot less like selling out and more like making it in 2014/15 joining a MCU cast and before getting a decade of those checks from Disney. Not saying all MCU movies are bad, but there is an obvious commercialism to them downplaying the more artistic subversive and counterculture history from comics. I don't think it would make sense to hold that against anyone though, plenty of actors and directors take on a mix of more commercial and artistic projects.

If someone tried to chat me up about what I do for money, I'd be fortunate to be so gentle about shutting them down.

On the sliding scale of capitalist whoredom, my line of work is far less salubrious than were I a gigolo; I work in maritime claims.

Hot. Tell me what the deductible for my large schooner is... (I'm sorry, I have no idea what I'm doing)

Is the quoting in that headline hard for anyone else to follow?

I thought I was having a stroke tbh

Just start talking about DC. That’ll kill the mood real quick.

I’m surprised Marvel/Disney isn’t making their stars sign a ”non-disparagement clause” at this point, considering how many of them keep shitting on the entire concept of these movies.

I don't think she is shifting on marvel.

This type of binary thinking is what galvanizes people, it's either "the best" or "the worst" nothing in the middle is acceptable

They probably already did.

So weird that she feels/others feel she needs to prove *anything". Marvel movies, Oscar winners, reality TV... Who really cares? I think most people consume a wide variety of media. I have my highly acclaimed things, but I also have "junk food" shows...

I don't think they really care about you. Or what most people consume. They care about being hired and if they're put into a "likes doing superhero movies" box, the offers for other stuff won't be coming their way.

No shame in admitting you used the gig for a sweet payday. Most people don't see the MCU as nothing more than your average B-grade horror flick. It exists. We consume it and move on. It no longer has any semblance of quality that makes it memorable in any way whatsoever.
