3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. 6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

I'm Canadian and we lost to both US teams. Nobody in my nation is mocking either of the US teams. Honestly the women's goal tending was nuts. I'd like to see trump last 5 minutes on the ice with one of those ladies dancing the puck around him.

Between this and trump's recent voting comments, women in the US should be very concerned.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

The is no way trump could stand for two seconds on skates, let alone use them on ice.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

There is no way he could put on skates, with these feet.

[–] kossa@feddit.org 1 points 3 hours ago

Wait, are his feet as small as his hands, or what?

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 68 points 1 day ago (1 children)

1/3 of US women are totally cool with it.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hell, a majority of white women voters.

Probably partly because of the Dem leadership's obsession with fruitless pandering to wine moms, people keep forgetting about the Karens.

Most notable was Trump’s performance among white women. The Harris campaign actively targeted the group in the hope that protecting abortion rights would garner their support.

Yet such support failed to materialize, with Trump winning among white women 53% to 46% over Harris, with that group making up the largest overall voting bloc at 40%, according to AP VoteCast.

It really sucks. Even though it is a small majority, it is disgusting to think that 53 of of 100 white women would prefer Trump to Harris.

For comparison:

White and Suburban Men

The Pew Research Center found that Trump in 2016 had a 30-point advantage over Clinton among white men. While Trump still had a sizable advantage in that demographic in 2020, Biden did make some gains and shrunk the margin to 17 points.

So far, Harris appears to have lost some of that ground in 2024, according to the AP. White men who supported Trump made up 59% of those surveyed as of Wednesday afternoon, compared to 39% for Harris – a margin that was smaller than Clinton’s eight years ago but still larger than Biden's in 2020.

I don't understand these numbers. 59 + 39 != 100. Did 2% vote for a 3rd party?

I guess this is what happens when you tolerate intolerance

Yes. I know a few conservative voters in my home state who hate Trump but refused to vote for either Clinton or Harris.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago

Now more than ever, there’s a magnificent difference between the people representing the country and the people running the country.

Good on you all.

[–] SculptusPoe@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I'd like to see Orange T skate across the ice from one entrance to the other. We would get to have President JD Vance this month if he did try it.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Careful what you wish for. I worry JD is just as evil if not worse but also more cognitive.

[–] Gumbyyy@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Yeah, but he doesn't have the rabid cult of personality

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

He absolutely holds ideas that are as bad or worse. He doesn't have the charisma or the network to inact it though.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

or the network to inact it though.

Vance still has Theil holding his puppet strings.

While he doesn't have the MAGA base supporting him, he isn't completely without connections to big money influencing and enabling him.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Money is only part of Trump's ability to influence. He also has the RNC chair. He can get anyone who doesn't fall in line primaried. Vance doesn't have these sorts of connections.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I meant big money being an influence on Vance. As in telling him what to do.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Right, he can be told what to do. That's 100% the case. I just don't believe he can actually be any where near as effective as Trump at enacting the stuff he's told to do.

[–] SculptusPoe@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, I mostly said that because the fantasies everybody online is having about Trump leaving office before his term is up has that one major flaw that would affect anybody hoping for it. They should probably be hoping for Trump's continued health. Though I have zero idea what JD would actually do if he was in office. He would definitely not be as chaotic, for good or ill.

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Mark my words. If pedo Trump lives to the start of his 3rd year of this term, he's going to be hit with the 25th Amendment. Thiel wants Vance in office for 10 years to completely destroy the USA and can't get that if Trump leaves office too early.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

No, he would fall flat on his ass then all the shit from his diaper would explode all over the ice

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 2 points 1 day ago

There's no way the fossil could even watch a game without nodding off

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I am mocking the people who are mocking us allegedly mocking them, however

as for the men's game.. goddamn, hellebuyck again. what a performance. and those missed opportunities on the wide open net hurt. it happens... but it hurts.

unfortunately, I've literally not seen a single non-inflammatory comment from an American yet on social media. obviously there's the algorithm factor of boosting inflammatory shit.. but it's still a bad look. I have told off a few Canadians for being (unprompted) dicks, though

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago

i am but one American so the sample size of what i'm seeing is limited, meaning the value of what i am saying is limited. we're a little pre-occupied right now to care about icey slidey sports. there's even a major part of me that was only paying attention to hockey second hand since my retiree motehr was telling me about it. she was disappointed Canada lost. she sees Canada as a nation of brethren separated from us by an imaginary border and our unlawful regime as a threat to all of the things she loved about the country we called home for 4 years in the 90s.

Didn't you guys get men's doubles curling? That was a hell of a match to watch!

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

My friends and I have been trying to get sterilized since the election. Half of us have been successful so far. It feels like one of the last ways we can protect ourselves

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Forgive me if this is ignorant, but what does getting sterilized protect you from in this situation?

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 29 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Childbirth and pregnancy during the first Trump era was a nightmare, and it is again.

[–] Sineljora@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They’re legalizing marital rape and criminalizing miscarriages. This move protects them from possible death and criminal charges.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Additionally, a lot of hospitals and doctors in those states are being very shaky about providing prenatal or neonatal care because of the potential of opening them to liability if a baby dies.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 day ago

abortions are sometimes life saving interventions. they have become criminalized in a widening number of locations

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

... while you can. Don't rule out that is ruled illegal too in the near future.

[–] groupofcrows@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

The Usians are sore losers and bad winners.

Well you might not see him taking on the women's team, but you can see him playing against the men:

all the best hockey players handle their sticks like a golf club, right?

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Only in the off season

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

He wouldn’t even get onto the ice. It would be too difficult for him to tie his laces.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I was mocking the refs.
