Can you use sugar only to pickle? (sh.itjust.works)

There are honey cured meats and sugar seems to do the same thing as salt. I don't think I've seen anyone say sugar pickles. Anyone know? Yes, I googled it.

The difference would be one has to be heated though, yeah? A light pickling would be just coating it with salt and sticking it in the fridge for a few hours. No heating required.
