For better or worse, kilo is a pretty commonly used shorthand for kilogram.
Yeah, I'm a stupid american but I immediately parsed that without even having to think about it. That dude's wildin over nothing
Or kilobyte, or kilometer, or kilosecond.
One time I asked for a kilo and the guy says what?
I've never heard kilo used as an abbreviation for these. Kilobyte is KB, kilometer is klick, and kilosecond in a silly unit that almost no one uses due to the existence of minutes and hours.
