They are so f*cking disgusting 🤮 Whole US billionaire class, all 200 or so people, just plainly disgusting.

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah there’s not really that many problematic influentials, I reckon no more than 1000 at best around the world. The rest are all taking orders to one degree or another.

Replaced, the planet would be substantially better off.

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

there are over 3000 billionaires, a very manageable number for the rest of us to eat

[–] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 52 points 12 hours ago (4 children)

Agreed, just gonna point out that not all (though certainly most) of them are American. Elon and Prince Andrew being good examples.

Side thought, I'd like to see the ratio of billionaires by nationality. I imagine most would be either American or Chinese, but would be interesting numbers to look at. 🤔

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 18 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Elon is American granted citizenship in 2002, 24 years ago.

I make this point not for Elon, but for other naturalized citizens. Once granted citizenship you are American, that's one of the few good things I like about this country. I've lived and traveled to other countries where it doesn't matter if you became a citizen or not because the locals will always consider you not one of them.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

citizen or not the locals see you as 'other'

So, the US lol

I can only speak of my expirences in the US and other places, but for the most part no that's not how it is in the US.

Yes you can find a racist asshole in every country, but what's the point. I wouldn't say every Italian is uneducated because I found a person that didn't complete school. This is why extremes make bad evidence.

But admittedly I left the US before things got out of control. Our federal government is certainly making an attempt at trying to define who should be American. Sad to see and goes against one of the few things I truly loved about my country

[–] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago

I guess the difference is just money, which tracks. Any poor foreigner with citizenship would be deported.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Billionaires_by_nationality

this is much easier to visualize, I didn't think there were that many billionaires

[–] RabbitBBQ@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

924 billionaires in the U.S. with a combined $7 trillion in "wealth". So once Mandani takes all of it away to pay the debt, who is going to pay the remaining $33 trillion?

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 12 points 10 hours ago

My country has way too many billionaires.

[–] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 14 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Wow! Thanks, I was right about the numbers being neato, but it's also depressing to think about. 😭

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 6 points 11 hours ago

It's a lot of money but not that much for super rich people I guess

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 5 points 10 hours ago

Sorry, is Lebanon the country with the 2 billionaires in the corner? I'm terrible at remembering flags, mb.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Andrew was never a billionaire either.

[–] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 8 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Fair enough, I guess I just assumed since he came from royalty.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 14 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

He was only the spare, but he was mummy’s favourite so she paid him an allowance of £250k, which he heavily overspent which led to all these dirty deals with the likes of Epstein to sell invites to royal parties etc.

While the Royal family are billionaires, that is mostly the assets of the Crown Estate which are controlled for the public good. What they keep is centred around the King and the Prince of Wales.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 4 points 10 hours ago

You could live a very nice life on that, especially if you inflation adjusted it, with how much that was at the times.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 8 points 11 hours ago

what might help is if you shifted away from an amount like a billion to a mechanism and class - they are of the capitalist owning classes who exploit because that is how capitalism works. billionaires to millionaires to thousandaires. own and exploit? boom: roasted.

[–] Awajuk@piefed.social 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

That is true. Unfortunately. However the cancer that usa became is generally pathetic - not only disgusting. The approach to money, people, technology, exploitation… it is just hard to comprehend how evil these people are… of course not only American but the concentration and the level of extreme is absolute top there. This is one of little areas that they are really THE “best” and world class.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Brand new account, all posts are critical of a specific subject. it's just so obvious lol

It will be deleted soon, too.

At 200 it's not even a class, just a club.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 7 hours ago

It's a big club and we ain't in it.

To be fair, I don't think most people who to be in that club.

[–] Elting@piefed.social 4 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Despite having to be a sociopath to hoard that much money, even here on the fediverse people will still defend some billionaires because a few of their aims happen to align.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 13 points 12 hours ago

Whole ~~US~~ billionaire class
