What's goth about this?

Is it just because the clothes are black?

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think this is a cultural version of goth. That’s allowed. No, it’s definitely not what I’d expect for western goth, it’s very tame and looks almost cyberpunk or video game-ish. But if that’s a style that develops independently, that’s cool.

What do you mean by "cultural"??

What is culturally Goth about this?

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sorry, guess we’re getting back to gatekeeping goth then and dictating what another culture’s should look like?

Your comment is true goth material though

Gatekeeping is the core of the culture

Is it gatekeeping to expect words to actually have some meaning?

Like if I posted a guy with a tidy haircut in a 3 piece suit and called it Punk, would you be gatekeep for telling me a business suit isn't Punk?

Basically any questioning if something fits a definition counts. It's silly

The black, the boots, and the barely concealed look of utter disdain

Just because something is black doesn't make it goth. Goth is an actual subculture.
