I am new to this, hi! I see some folks on eBay selling $200 home built solar stations. Could anyone recommend any good options for this kind of thing? What's the best way to configure it?

Check out the SenseCap solar node. It's way under $200 and professionally built.

Probably the best configuration for it is as a ~~regular client~~ client_base role since that will relay like a repeater but without forcing other clients in the mesh to use it (which would be problematic unless you're in a super ideal position).

I second the Seed solar nodes, they have been great

Client_base is another option! The docs say it always rebroadcasts packets from or to its favorited nodes and handles all other traffic like normal client.

So it helps your personal/neighborhood mesh without the negative big picture effects you get if you set a home node on router or something

Heh, I always forget about client_base. My device in that role is still on firmware 2.5.0 from last year and doesn't have client_base as an option. Gotta get it updated stat lol.
