There’s been a couple of minor dust-ups on mastodon about the conduct of so-called “big accounts” there that I do not care to comment on, but it has got me thinking — do we even have “big accounts” on the threadiverse (Lemmy/piefed/mbin)? I don’t think there’s any handle I’ve seen where I’ve been like “oh yeah, that person.” Am I just bad at remembering usernames, or does the community/thread style of discussion remove all continuity for a single account?

I think there's a small handful of powerusers like LadyButterfly, Stamets, The_Picard_Maneuver, formerly FlyingSquid, etc, but they seem to me mostly non-problematic, mostly don't seem to overreach, and all seem to be actual people who actually interact and engage in discussions as members of their respective communities. I think some of them could post less or be more discerning in what they post, if it was up to me, but I understand that currently all of these type of users are interested in the growth of Lemmy and motivated to do their part to provide content, so I appreciate them vastly more than any critique I have of them. I am wary of the influence and soft power that can be accrued by powerusers, but as of right now I personally don't think it's a particular issue the community is currently facing.

But also I am not the most active or engaged community member, especially in the drama or social politics side of the fediverse, so the likelihood of blindspots in my view is high, I'll admit.

Nothing at all. I don't know any of these users other than through brief interactions in comments.

There's that guy who makes accounts on seemingly every instance imaginable and seems to be a moderator on dozens of communities as well.

You talking about c0002 or c002?

The one who makes meta posts about the fediverse or the one who is obsessed with ml and hexbear ?

I do wish we had more granular controls of what to block and when, but maybe that's on me to make that.

All of these users have great stuff, but sometimes their posts to certain communities may align less with my interests. I've mostly resorted to blocking those entire communities, but if I could block posts to that community only by specific users, that would be better.
