The Pentagon has ordered 1,500 US troops based in Alaska to prepare to deploy to Minnesota as a precautionary measure in case the administration decides to send them, a US official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The unit of the 11th Airborne Division is a cold-weather unit nicknamed “The Arctic Angels.”

Just a reminder that levying war is against the United States like this is the one thing the Constitution actually defines as a crime: Treason.

Don't.

Literally anyone he sends besides ICE, aren't going to put up with what ICE is doing.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wouldn't be so sure about that

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

My many issues with deploying federal forces against states' wills aside, I 100% would rather be dealing with a US Army Airborne division than the incompetent, untrained, and malicious goons that make up ICE.

US military does tend to have clear rules of engagement that they actually stick to.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I can agree with you there.

[–] jim@lemmy.org 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Every person Trump sends will do exactly as told.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You think someone is going thru one by one and determining if they're loyal

Are you thinking the military is 100% loyal?

I know you're wrong, just not how you're wrong...

[–] jim@lemmy.org -1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don’t think someone makes sure they are loyal. I think they all do as they’re told so that someone doesn’t check to see if they are loyal. That’s all the ruling class needs to have control

[–] fort_burp@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago

Yea, and they will each pre-emptively go the extra mile to prove they are well within the boundaries of the in-group, which leads to extreme views and horrific actions. It's a combination of low self-esteem, low IQ, and insecurity. This makes the in-group smaller and "purer" but also pulls centrists / non-principled people toward the ideology of the in-group. That's why Harris was the Democratic candidate in 2024, whereas 30 years ago Harris' platform could have been a Republican one (and conversely why Sarah Palin seems tame by today's standards, but not the standards of 30 years ago).

I think they all do as they’re told

Maybe true for marines less than six month out of training, but that's not who trump is sending.

He wants to send fucking airborne rangers, specifically an artic division out of Alaska.

ICE is 100% going to want to act like equals and when that immediately fails they will try to be extra violent to impress them.

And airborne rangers are not just going to let them run wild on civilians.

[–] jim@lemmy.org 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There is no difference between a marine and a fed and a local cop and a politician and an airborne ranger and an ICE agent.

They will ALL do the job they get paid for.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure thing lil buddy...

Just like if you ever met anyone from any of those groups, I'm sure you'd adjust your opinions to meet facts

[–] jim@lemmy.org -1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I’ve met lots of people from groups like this who keep doing it because they get paid.

Can you name anyone who has stood up and kept their job? Exactly, you old fucking centrist fart.

Enjoy your retirement without social security and Medicare lmfao.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Exactly, you old fucking centrist fart.

...

I get insulted a lot for my political beliefs, but that's a new one
