I see a lot of comments like "America is unrecognizable now." No, this is always how America has been. Difference is now it's happening to white people and not just POCs and other minorities, and the quiet parts are being said out loud instead of staying quiet.

So much this. And I gotta love 'The Wire' for doing a comprehensive view on society from different angles, clearly highlighting the "wrong zip code" effect: bodies that don't matter because they were black people in a poor neighborhood. Only hurt/dead white people in rich areas get people even remotely interested, especially when looking at the big picture instead of single cases.

Even in Joker that was one of the main point that's said in the movie: "had it been me the one in the ground you would have stepped on me without even looking down. But because they were rich white blond guys it's a tragedy" (not his exact words, I know).

That line is heartbreaking when you learn that Joaquin Phoenix's IRL brother died of a heroin overdose in the streets of New York while people stepped over his dying and dead body.

White people have been murdered by cops before and people still didn't give a shit. Since those people were young men and often poor or on the spectrum/handicapped. Suburban Libs start caring now because the victim is a white woman living in suburbia.

It's only happening to a small subset of white people though. This is how fascism operates. They keep taking chunks out of the complacent masses so they don't all rise up at once. That's why solidarity is so important.

Let's hope they bit off more than they can chew this time but that remains to be seen.

Unfortunately the US was founded on the opposite of solidarity.

Well, where empathy fails fear might succeed. 🤷
