The promise was to hold a referendum on PR, a promise they kept in 2018. > 60% voted to keep fptp.
They didn't originally promise it on a referendum during the lead up to the election but to pass it in a parliamentary majority. The establishment wing of the ndp ensured that democratic reform was designed to fail. We had a citizen's assembly decide on the matter in 2004 on stv because people do not have the time to research all the electoral systems, they just know they want proportional representation. Fearmongering from the rich and powerful is very effective. I wouldn't be surprised if you censor those who disagree with you again.
They're affiliated with the federal party which says they want mixed-member proportional, the public does not deserve scams.
They didn't have referendum and all this consultation when the establishment passed ranked ballots in 1952 to prevent the leftwing Co-operative Commonwealth from winning a majority of the seats.
95% of countries get pr through multiparty support in parliament not through referendums.
